Father-Son Banquet Scheduled By Persian Temple No. 46
All men and their sons are in vited to take part in a Father and Son Banquet Saturday, September 16, at the Fall Creek Parkway YMCA sponsored by Persian Temple No. 46 Shriners under the leadership of Van Wert Mullin,
illustrious notentate.

We are confident the great majority of Hoosiers want no return to the infamous KKK days that we lived through in the 1920’s. “Personally, we shall make every effort to protect our home.” The hate letter was the latest in a veritable wave of abuse that has nassed through the Indianapolis mails this summer, directed against ministers and private citizens who have been involved in news stories or have had “letters to the editor” published in daily newspapers. DESPITE INDIANA’S AntiHate .Law and the lederrl statutes concerning the mails, one or more poison-pen experts seem to be having a field-day. Up to this writing, the authorities appear powerless to cope with them, as well as with the vandals who have bombed and defaced numerous homes in the city. The latest “KKK letter” read: “Marcus Stewart: “The time has come that we must take a bit of a stronger stand with your journalistic policy in the Recorder. “Just about everyone dislikes violence and our reformed organization is no exception. But sometimes a little violence does come about when people try to convince others on their beliefs. The NAACP has tried to suppress

violence, the same way that our Indiana KKK members have tried to. “Our members do not sit around writing threating (sic) letters to integrationists; our main job is in educating whites (and some Negroes) the IMMORALITY in all-out integration.” AFTER CONCEDING “We all believe that a ‘certain amount’ of integration is inevitable,” the letter continued with the vulgar theme that “integration leads to mixed marriages,” etc., and declared : “We all (Negroes and Whites) must try to preserve our races the way God created us. And not blend together a mongrel race of part colored and part white. “This is what our organization stands for and we will fight ! for this stand, if n?ed be.” Then followed the threat against Mrs. Stewart.
