The most gracious Christian missionary, a minister’s charming wife from the city of Chicago, came to town last weekend to be guest speaker for the annual Women’s Day program of the First Baptist Church North Indianapolis. Mrs. Sweetie Johnson, vice-president of the Jr. Woman’s National Baptist Convention of America, was that guest. If you are around her any time at all, her wonderful Christian personality will rub off on you. She is the type of minister’s wife, with such sweet talent, that God is calling for today. I am so very sorry that many of you missed the wonderful speeches that she gave to the women Sunday morning and after-
noon.
She spoke on the theme, “A Woman TImt God Can Use." In her message, she stated that God is looking for a wom?n who is sincere and' willing to stand up and be counted for the Lord. To be the type of a woman that God wants, you must live a clean life and live in God’s way. If things go wrong in your home between you and your husband, don’t leave him, but talk to God about it. He will change things for you. Take your children to church and teach them the ways of God. The message was really enjoyed by all who heard her. I only wish that I could mention all the things that she said as it really gave everyone food for thought. I pray God’s blessings upon Mrs. Johnson, may she live long to tell the truth to the women of this nation. For the evening program, Miss Ruth Winters of our church, pre- ; sented a very challenging message. | Miss Winters, who is the director . of the Children’s Choir and the , Sunday School Band of the Church, ;also spoke on the subject, "Women That God Can Use. ’ She spoke of Sarah in her old age who was faithful to God, a woman that God did use, and said that sometimes the charming enemy in the church is the devil. She added that if you hear something and don’t know the facts keep your mouth shut. She urged everyone to sing praises unto
God.
A token was presented to Miss Winters from the Junior Choir by
Mrs. Mary Garvin.
Most of the women sharing on the program were presented beautiful
flowers as a token of appreciation its 28th Anniversary on last Sunday for the service they were rendering. JMrs Velma Strayhorne is president. I wish to commend the Union [The Mt. Olive YPO singers renDistricf Association for their ad-jdered the program. Other guests | included the City Ushers Union. Patrick E. Chavis. Jr.. Attv. The Church School of

vancements and also the General Baptist Convention for all the fine things as a group of Christians, they are doing in the name of Christ. May God bless all of your efforts. Rev. Sylvester Sweatt, associate minister at the Bethany Baptist Church, has organized a new Zion Baptist Church on the east side located on College Ave. The night vacation church in session at the Bethany Baptist Church this week will close Saturday, and the children will go to McCormick Creek State Park to

The director of the school was Mrs. Thelma Donahue. Other serving on the staff included Miss Fay Wilkey, in charge of handicrafts; Mesdames Miller, Ruby Barnes, Carrie Dodson, Vilo Taylor, Anna L. I am sure that by this time you have heard the wonderful program on Sunday known as “Operation Kingdom Building,’’ that comes your way at 9 a. m. over ractfo station WGEE. The program is under the direction of Rev. Wade Vaughn and has helped many. If you enjoy it, why not send a letter or a donation to help carry on the broadcast. The Church of the Living God C.W.F.F. held their Convention in Gary last week. Delegates from all over the state of Indiana attended. Elder W. L. Moore, pastor of the Church of God on Ethel was among the delegates attending. Mrs. Nancy Goba, from Freetown, Liberia, West Coast of Africa. Was special guest on last Sunday at the Simpson Methodist Church. The afternoon program was sponsored by Mission Circle Three, with Mrs. Essie Crenshaw as the chairman. She received some lovely gifts. Her brother. George Goba. showed slides. Garden seeds were presented to Mr. Goba who will send them
back to his people.
Mrs Frances Watson, missionary to Africa for many years, now living in Kansas City as the house guest of Rev. and Mrs. W. M. Edwards, was rushed to the Methodist Hospital on Friday of last week and is in serious condition. I am asking all of you to pray for her and send
get-well cards.

To Mr. and Mrs. William Phillips, members of the New Bethel Baptist Church, who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Aug. 14, in their home at 1429 Columbia Ave., I wish you many more happy days together with God’s blessings. It is wonderful when two people can stay together vhat long. Have you made your reservations for New Orleans? If not do it today. Time is going fast. I hope all churches who have national officers in their local church will please give them a donation. They have to raise a certain amount of money. Those national officers who will be serving in New Orleans will include: Mesdames Pare Lee Wagner, Priscilla Dean Lewis, Mary Thompkins, Fannie Young, Wiila Smith, Anna Washington. Willa Johnson, Betty Gay and Hilda Tolber. They fepresent your churches in a very fine way and need your help in getting money together. Please help them. The Indiana Baptist State Brotherhood had a fine convention and are to be commended for the very fine things they are doing to help others and train men for better service in the local church. The senior choir of First Baptist Church North, directed by Mrs. Josephine Williams, will present vesper services at 8 o. m. Sunday.
