made sacrifices on’y “God knows of.” At 87 years Elder Young has done great work, and I, for one, am appealing to the staff to run this letter as it is. Let’s give flowers whille people can smell them. As for my time serving in our city, there were offices such as columnist, church editor, business league president, notary public and clerk of New Bethel Baptist Church, and a member of the church over 35 years. Many offices I was holding at the same time, just in case you add them up as Elder Young did (smiles). OTHER LETTERS came from the Law offices of Richardson, Hosea, Lewis and Allen. “Mrs Mary P. McGuire Connell! I wish to congratulate you for your performance in representing the local branch of the NAACP at the 1960 National Convention held last month in St. Paul, Minn. 1 am informed that your performance was commendable, and as a member of said branch and am officer of the State Conference, I hereby render you my thanks for the same. I remain. Sincerely yours, L. Aldridge Lewis Jr ” YOUR OLD SCRIBE has received letters from outside of the city regarding the award presented her in St. Paul at the Freedom Fund dinner, which over 900 persons attended at $4.00 per plate. This week's letter came from Mrs. Aaron F. Newsom, of Anderson. She stated in her letter that a Mr. Satterwhite is working very hard on the Indiana State paper for the NAACP, of which Rev. Ford Gibson is organizer, with yours truly as editor Mrs. Newsom is happy to know we got second award, but she urges us to go for first place next year in Philadelphia where the 1961 Convention will be held. Thanks to all my well wishers, including those from South Bend, Gary, Terre Haute, East Chicago, and lastly, Mrs. Elsa J. Stevens of Brazil. My jrayers are that Ishall always prove worthy of your respect, and that Rev. Ford Gibson, who vouched for me, will always be worthy of his office and go as far as a man can go in any capacity. The NAACP needs workers and more workers Our city has a fine president. Rev. H. L. Burton, who can't do this job alone, but with a population such as we have, he can go places if we support him. All can’t be leaders, but good followers can make a good leader. Thanks again to all who took time to send such lovely letters. Mrs. Virgie Davis is always on the job. Loowk her up for membership anywhere in the state of Indiana.
