sey of Columbus, 0. Thursday morning devotions were led by Rev. J. W. Crockett, acting presiding elder of the Indianapolis District. The School of Prophets was for the last time conducted by Dr. Foggie. He continued his theme, “Worship,” by saying that the altar should remind us of God and because of such, it should be set apart from all else. He also brought out the thought that when we dress up on Sunday, we don’t do it for one’ another, but we are doing it for God. “We want and should look our best when we present ourselves to Him,” he said. Other thoughts, suggestions and timely remarks were given by the teachers to make better pastors, missionaries, etc., in the church. The Friday morning session was not conducted because of the death of Dr. John W. Brooks, late principal of School No. 26. The Judicial Council Referendum, which had to be ratified by threefourths of the annual conference to become law, was voted upon 1 and passed during the afternoon session. The Saturday morning sessions opened \vith devotions led by Rev. Marvin Barnett. Afterwards, the School of Prophets was conducted by the bishop. In conducting the school Bishop Spottswood said: “The task of the preacher is harder now than ever before, because the people are satisfied with less. But with this satisfaction goes a desire and a demand by them for a higher quality.” Reports were read by the Budget Committee and the Board of Examiners. The latter committe.e recommended the promotion of Rev. Barnett from the status of local preacher to that of a deacon. The conference voted unanimously in his favor* Also the issuing of elder orders to Rev. H. Williams was unanimously approved. Both men were instructed by the bishop and told to be ready by fasting and praying for the coming ordination. Disciplinary questions were asked the presiding elders concerning the ministers, and with all characters being passed, the conference then adjourned. Sunday School Hour was conducted at Jones Tabernacle as were all the services for the final day of the conference. Mrs. Leola Brookins, conference director and local superintendent of Campbell Church, was in charge. Bishop Spottswood gave way to fatigue during the morning session, turning the services over to Dr. Clinton Hoggard. Dr. Hoggard spoke from Ephesians 6:11: “Put on the Whole Armour of God”—another dynamic speaker climaxing a conference which was truly filled with the Holy Spirit and directed by the hand of God. Memorial services were ren dered for the deceased members of the church with singing and a sermon being delivered by Rev. R. W. Walker, pastor of St. Mark’s Temple. Final reports and resolutions were read, the charge to the ministers was given along with the ordination message by the bishop. The 51st Session o*‘ the AME Zion Conference close! with the hymns, “Go Preach My Gospel” and “Blest Be The Tie That Binds,” and benediction.
