Despite a somewhat delayed start

of the Scarlet Voguettes’ Miss Se pia of Indianapolis Beauty Pageant, the end result was an eye appealing islet of young ladies. Each had a three-time chance to be seen. Although the audience was smaller at the beginning than at the end,

the interest level seemed high. The seven contestants partici-

pating in the three categories— bathing suit, street wear, and formal attire—were Mildred Parker, Patricia Phelps, Launa Smith, Marcia Warrington, Do’ores Wathen, Carol Williams and Rena Wilson.

Carol Williams, 19, was first

place winner and received a cash proze of $100 and a trophy; Marcia Warrinston, 19 second place, and Rena Wilson, 22, third place. Both winners received gold loving sups All three Winners are employed at

the Army Finance Center. An eight member panel of judg-

es included Dr. Lehman D. Adams Jr.. Henry Bundled, W. T. Ray, Mrs. Ruth Clinthorne, Mrs. Mary Jones, Mrs Priscilla Dean Lewis and two representatives ^from the Loretta Young Modeling Agency.

Ron Woods appeared on the pageant as emcee and Mrs Wilma Ratio Greene was moderator. David Hardiman’s combo furnished

the music.

The money realized from the pageant will put the club’s name on the roster of contributors to the Fall Creek /MCA. Planner House Building Fund, and the NAACP. The Scarlet Voguettes describe themselves as a civic and social Club organized during high school years to better their fellowman and provide noteworthy events for themselves and their friends. The nine young women tackled what appeared to be a mammoth task and launched a benefit which they instituted last winter. Committees worked to schedule modeling workshops and orientation < lasses before the show opened. While one committee planned the physical arrangements, others were responsible for printing, music, the sale of tickets and the selection of the contestants. side’, was nonetheless a commendable effort and responsibility that most of the younger adult c.'ubs find hard to attempt, let alone

achieve.

President Lurlean Owens notes that tentative plans for next year’s pageant are being outlined with closer coordination of plans and a more widely publicized show as well Perhaps then more adults will be available as chairside superintendents as tomorrow’s leaders go into action. Although the success of the Miss Sepia of Indianapolis Beauty Pageant cannot be measured in terms of any one spectacular segment, thre were, in many areas of the Scarlet Voguettes endeavor, significant steps forward that could be noted by the observers.
