Charles Mittman, 24, and Frank Thorp, 24. Dean of Students Joseph Cithami said their final averages were so close that it is necessary to extend the grade points to two decimal places to find a difference among the four. Fnal ranking in the photo-finish won’t be disposed until tabulations are

made in July.

Ferguson’s high rating as a student was praised by Dr. Franklin McLean, professor emeritus of physiology at the university, and a long-time fighter against discrimination in the medical field. As secretary of the National Medical Fellowships, Inc., an organization which grew out of the locally formed Provident Medical Associates, Dr McLean, 71, has given more than one million dollars in grants to 300 Negroes in both undergraduate and graduate training. He has long contended that given the same financial breaks as others, the Negro student has the capacity of becoming in outstanding medical physician, .eacher and researcher Ferguson has been termed “one of the finest students I ever have taught” by Dr. Robert Wissler, head of the university’s pathology

department.

throughout the summer.

On the last day of school, each child will be encouraged to take his leaflet home, discuss it with his parents, and then put it in a con.vpecuous place i nhis room where

he will see it each day.

Integration Suit BILOXI. Miss (ANP) — A Federal judge last week granted stats officials 60 days to prepare for a Justice Dept, suit seeking integral tion of Gulf of Mexico beaches

here.

The suit charges Biloxi and Harrison County officia's with violating a contract with the Federal government by denying use of the beach to Negroes. The Justice Dept, claims Federal funds were used to build a seawall along the beach with the understanding that it would be open to use by the public, including Negroes. ,

NAIROBI, Kenya—Murngai Njeroge, an American-trained African doctor, for six months has been fighting the three main enemies of his people, malnutrition, respiratory infection and Intestinal disease With his ammuhition supply stacked to the ceiling in a small back room, and crates and crates of U S food concentrates and vitamins, the African doctor takes on

the task single-handed

The clinic is so small that the waiting room is often crowded and overflowing. The tiny clinic will be replaced by a new $50,000 clinic which will be financed by the MEDICO, the international organization founded by Dr. Tom Dooley, former U. S. Naval officer, dedicated to providing medical clinics in underdeveloped parts of the

world.

Dr. Omar John Fareed of Bevehly Hills, Calif., whom Dr. Njeroge met while studying medicine in the United States, has arrived to help set up a medical laboratory at the clinic Many of the patients walk up to 100 miles to the present clinic. Nearly 200 of them pass through Dr. Njeroge’s office daily. Dr. Nperoge established the present clinic with the aid of

MEDICO.

DETROIT (ANP) —Police here don’t know where Ninotchaka Jackson has been all her 18 years, but they’re glad they’ve only seen

her once.

Dubbed the one-girl riot after she fought off 10 policemen, injured three of them, her bother, a passerby and tied up traffic, Judge John P, Scallen faced her in court last week. AS THREE PATROLMEN, all injured in their encounter with Ninotchaka, listened. Judge Scallen accepted her plea of guilty to a disturbing the peace charge He sent the 4-feet, 11-inch girl to the Wayne County jail until she is

sentenced.

“I won’t take a chance on releasing you on bond,” he said! “You make too much trouble. It is my opinion that the police should have brought you in here on a far more serious charge.” Patrolman Edwar Gawronski told Judge Scallen that Miss Jackson. ran up as he was writing a street violation ticket for her brother, Raezy, 19. “She yelled to passers-by to rescue her brother,” Gawronski said. “She tried to hit me with a club, but instead knocked down a man in the crowd who was trying to quiet her. “She swore and ran out In the street and blocked traffic. I took after her and she ran between houses and threw > garbage can lids at me. They missed but one of them hit her brother, who was trying to get her to surrender. It cut

his hand”

Gawronski’s partner, Ross Bertram, radioed for help, and eight iFoKcemen were rushed to the

scene.

With the help of the reinforcements, Miss Jackson finally was cornered. But she did not give up

without more fight

SHE BIT Bertram’s left wrist and stabbed Patrolman Robert SkJut in the face with the jagged end of a broken broomstick. Both patrolmen, wearing bandages, were

in court with Gawronski
