Baha'is to Observe Race Day Halt fif Fame
At Fall Creek 'Y' June 12
By WILLA THOMAS
Many of th« churches in our city were filled to capacity Sunday as people from all walks of life made their way to the House of the Lord lifting up their voices in praise to our wonderful Saviour for what He is to each of us. At our church, First Baptist, North, we were blessed to have as guest Mrs. Edna H. Porter of Los Angeles, who is organist for the National Baptist Convention of America and director of the National Baptist Sunday School Congress Chorus. Mrs Porter really knows her music and all of us who heard lier did so much enjoy her organ recital. She played the beautiful chimes at First Baptist which we do not get to hear too very often. She is known all over the United States and Canada for her ability to train just about anyone to sing or play. THIS SUNDAY is Children’s Day and parents and churches around the United States will be honoring their children. On this day at 3 at First Baptist Church, North, the children’s department of the church, directed by Rev. and Mrs. George Tolbert, will present a program. The Starlight Band of New Bethel Baptist Church will also present a program Sunday at 3. Mrs L. Whitfield is band director. Special awards will be presented to the boys and girls who have proven faithful to their church. I WISH TO congratulate all graduates of the various high high schools and grade schools who have completed or will complete their school work this week. I should like to urge each of the students to continue in school to try to learn how they may someday be able to help others. MEMBERS OF THE Church of God in Christ Holiness will leave

next week for Chicago, where they will attend their district convention I WENT BY the Trinity CME Church last week and it is going to be a beautiful dhurch when it is finished. I wish to commend Rev. James Cummings and his members for the fine job they are doing. Remember, if you’re feeling downhearted and feel the need of prayer why not dial the Trinity CME Prayer Phone at WA. 4-5689. You will be blessed by doing so. Do you have a home department in your church school? If not, why not organize one? The home department is for the shut-ins, ones who for some reason or other can’t make it to church, those who work on Sundays, doctors nurses, policemen, etc. It is a’so for invalids who can not attend church. They would be given a Sunday school lesson book and would be called on each week to discuss the lesson If you need more information on the home department write to Miss Mae Hunter, 523 Second Ave., Nashville, Tenn. LAST WEEK 45 pastors, members of the Seventh Day Adventists, held a meeting at the Indiana Academy in Cicero, Ind. At the meeting plans were made for the state wide conference which was to open June 9. Four thousand persons were expected to attend. MISS MARY FITTS will direct the Missionary Chorus of First Baptist Church, North Indianapolis. Sunday at 8 during vesper services. REV, C. K. ATHAILY of South India wa^ guest speaker Sunday at the 11 o’clock worship services of St. John Methodist Church. MANY PEOPLE will leave the city next week enroute to Washington, D. C., where they will attend the Billy Graham meetings in the nation’s capital, June 17 to prayer day for the Washington meeting. Please pray with millions of people around the world that God might bless the meeting. Dr

Race Amity Day will be observed by the Baha'is of Indianapolis June 12 at a public meeting at 7 at the Fall Creek YMCA. The guest speaker, Dr. Harrison M. Langrall, will speak on “Pathway to Peace.” A graduate of Johns-Hopkins University, Dr. Langrall was one of three Baha’i delegates from Indiana to the National Baha’i Convention. A graduate of the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Dr. Langrall was associated with the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., for three years. Recently he has been practicing internal medicine and diagnosis at Davis Clinic in Marion. Tile purpose of Race Amity Day, according to Dr. C. Broumand, chairman of the local assembly, is to spread the knowledge of the oneness of mankind. “The corrosion of racial prejudice which has attacked the whole social structure of our American society needs to be counteracted,” Dr. Broumand said. “It must be replaced by the healing process of race amity, a condition that will enable the United States to revive its tradition of being the land of the free and home of tVlP Viyjivp ** “To Baha'is, Race Amity Day is a special occasion, not only to proclaim the principle of the oneness of mankind, but to rededicate themselves to the ceaseless exertions, the sacrifices, the vgilance, the moral courage, the tact, and the sympathy for which this paramount national issue call” Dr. Broumand’s statement concludes. Race Amity Day was inaugurated by the American National Baha’i Assembly in 1968. and will be observed this year in nearly 1600 communities throughout the United States.
