OUR SAVIOUR LUTHERAN CHURCH TO SPONSOR CITY-WIDE BABY CONTEST Our Saviour Lutheran Church will sponsor a baby contest, and a meeting to distribute tickets will be held June 3, at 7:30 p. m., in the church basement. The first prive winner will receive one-half the revenue from his total sales and the 2nd and 3rd prize winners will take away onefourth of what they turn in. Other entrants will be awarded 10% of their votal sales. Mothers interested in baby call the church office, WA 5-3737. Mrs. Geraldine English and Mrs. Marie Jennings are co-chairmen of the contest committee.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Gives Scholarships Credentials of eligible 1960 graduates of all city and parochial high schools have been sent to the Scholarship Committee of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, which is giving $500 in scholarships. Recipients of the scholarships will be announced soon. Mrs. Ruby | Woodson is basileus of the chapter. BEL-CANTO ENSEMBLE TO HOLD ANNUAL BRUNCH The Bel-Canto Ensemble, now in its 29th year, will hold their annual Memorial Day Morning Musical and Brunch, Monday at the Charles T. Amos Studio, 3945 Graceland. Buford Hazel is president of the group, and Ronald Davis the vice president will preside.

Mrs. Bigbee was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder and her case was continued when she appeared in Municipal Court 5 Saturday. She was ordered held without bond in the County Jail. Harrison and Patrolman Colion Shaney that Mrs Smith had been stabbed by her boyfriend, Willie John Dixon, 39, 324 ,W. 10th. Dixon was arrested at his home about an hour later and taken to General, where he v/as identified by the dying woman. Dixon’s case was continued when he appeared in Municipal Court Monday and he is being held without bond. Homicide officers had not been able to determine exactly what aused the altercation
Sheriff to Hire 13 New Deputies Sheriff Robert O’Neal announced this week that applications for 13 deputy sheriff positions will be accepted starting Monday. Applicants must be between 21 and 35 years old. at least 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh 150 pounds. They also must have a high school diploma, and not have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor. Applicants may be apply at 40 S. Alabama, and all applications must be in by June 7.

Jessie Nelson Services for Jessie Nelson, 69, 245 N. Capitol, who died May 18 in General Hospital, were held May 21 in Craig Funeral Home, with burial in New Crown Cemetery. Mrs. Nelson was a life resident of Indianapolis and a member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church. During World War II she worked at Camp Alter bury Survivors induce a raster, Miss Mary Stepp, and a nephew, Edward Stepp.
