ward R. Cass. All toll, 21 city policemen and federal egents using three patrol wagons and eight squad cars conducted the raids. The 24 men and one woman had a total of 515 previous arrests on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to mur-
der. i In a statement this week .Carl! C. Schmidt, in spec to’■of detectives, said the number of thefts from cars here has dropped 50 percent since the May 4 roundup. He called the figures “tremendously significant” In the first 24 hours after the mass a v rest not one case of auto larceny was reported, according to Schmidt. “The fact that the frequency of these crimes has been cut in half shows the addicts’ need to steal so they can get their dope," he said.

WRAPPED IN BLOOD: When little 9-year-old Charles Spurlock, walking in the vicinity of 15th and Mill, spotted what he thought to be a little baby's body partly submerged in water under a bridge — he almost shook it off to be a figment of his own imagination — but it wasn't. He took a second look and ran for help. Police arrived to find, beside the body of the premature infant, a paper sack containing newspapers, women's clothing and a man's undershirt. Dr. James Anderson, deputy coroner, is shown here examining the articles. Dr. Anderson said the male tot was approximately 22 weeks old

Wife Slays Continneo from rare 1 told a Recorder reporter that Abernathy had another patron in the tavern make a phone call for him and left, when his wife followed him out cursing in a loud
voice.
The couple argued on the sidewalk for 10 or 15 minutes, Sulkoff said, when he noticed they both had knives and phoned the police. When she appeared in Municipal Court 5 Saturday, Mrs. Abernathy was bound over to the grand jury on a murder charge. But her atI tomey, H. Perry Smith filed a writ of habeas corpus in Criminal Court 1 Wednesday and Judge Richard Salb reduced the charge to manslaughter and set bond at
$1,000.
Funeral services for Abernathy were incomplete at the King and King Funeral Home Thursday.
