PRAISE, THEN RETIREMENT: Mrs. Ella B. Turner, home economics supervisor for over 30 years at Planner House, was guest of honor at a reception given by her fellow workers Thursday, March 31. Mrs. Turner announced her retirement from active service. Here Dr. Cleo Blackburn, agency director, praises Mrs. Turner's service to Planner House and presents her with an orchid corsage. Other gifts were presented from the staff and the agency. These included a special cake, an umbrella, and a "Princess" telephone for her desk at home. Mrs. Turner, although retired, will be busy os a consultant for food service at Planner House and with fabric designing in her home. She resides with her family at 1412 E. 17th.
Frankie Weathers Rated 'Superb' In Recital Frankie Weathers, student soprano at Indiana University in Bloomington, completely captivated music lovers with her superb and flawless presentations in the Cultural Series sponsored by alumnae members of of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Making her third appearance in Indianapolis, Miss Weathers showed the audience the great technical ability and control that she is developing and will undoubtedly be noted for in musical circles. Her program, while divided into five sections, was so beautifully performed that it seemed all too short. Mrs. Clara Reese Kirk was the accompanist. Wnile the audience was very responsive to each of Miss Weathers selections, they were highly enthusiastic with her presentation of the spirituals and light opera and concert aras which showed every qualty of Miss Weathers’ voice. At the end of the entire recital, the audience recalled the young star for several encores. Miss Weathers is working toward her graduation after which she will work on Ivor master's degree. She will then go to Europe. Miss Weathers is married to Bela Bakonyi, musician-composer from Hungary now studying at Indiana University. They are the parents of a six-month-old son.
