Thomas Albert Combs Jr., 33, .eeeived a certificate and graduate honors April 1 for successfully completing a three years and nine months tool and die making course at the Western Electric Company. The company develops, designs ind makes telephone products which are distributed nationwide. Combs was admitted as an aporentice in the tool and die-mak-tng course after passing a compelitive pre-entrance examination in 195Q. ON THE STRENGTH of his academic rating, on-the-job experience, and knowledge of his particular field, he has been assigned io the modeling department at Western Electric. Combs is a graduate of Attucks High School, attended the school of engineering for three years at Purdue University, and served in the U. S. Navy. He and his mother, Mrs. Ethel R. Combs, live at 2269 N. Illinois. He is also the son of ihomas Albert Combs Sr., 509 N. Illinois.

Butler praised what he called "the inspiring example of moral courage which has been set by many young people in the South and in other sections of our nation in protesting in a peaceful but direct and forceful fashion the indignities of . . . segregation.”
