Meriwether and Mr. DeKrantz. A parade io the new building was led by Archie Porter. following a concert by the Indianapolis News Newsboyb Band. State Senator Robert L. Broken-
burr spoke on the history of the Senate Avenue Y. Dr. H. N. Middleton served as master of ceremonies. State Ltb'.artai Harold Brigham, who 4s president of the Indiana YMCA, announced that the Y’s state convention will be held in the Fall Creek building next April. E’mer O. Hill. Metropolitan YMCA l ecretary, called for payment of tleuges i-'-id additional donations to buy needed equipment. A complicated ceremony found the kevs (o the building presented from the contractor to the architect to the head of 'he YMCA Development Corp. to Willard B. Ransom,.chairman of the new building committee DR. JOHNSON WAS introduced by W. L. C King, who revealed that the two were football oppontkits in college days Finally Mr. Ransom presented a gold key to Dr. George C. Watkins — and the public began to enter the finest YMCA building in Indiana and certainly one of .he finest in the world.

Public Accommodations AT THE top off Hie 4-sfory T-shaped building is the section comprising 9S dormitory rooms. Special accommodations ffor married couples stopping over; 15 rooms with private both and air-conditioning. Three off these "supper deluxe" residences are two-room suites ffor man and wife. All rooms hove wall-to-wall carpeting, os do the corridors. Some 500 persons con be served banquet style in the gymnasia, and 1,000 persons con be seated for ma*s meetings. Two parking lots con accommodate some 80 cert.

Recreation Facilities THE GYM is divided into 2 ports by a canvas divider, which mokes it possible to carry on two activities ot the same time. There ore six basketball backboards and other gym equipment. The 80 ft. x 40 ft. swimming pool is temperature controlled. There are two locker rooms, two shower reams, two drying rooms and checkroom complete with totebaskets. A forced-air system is included "to eliminate the traditional gvm aroma." FOOD SERVICE MORE THAN $19,000 worth of eouioment, comprises o 16-stool air-conditioned coffee shop, kitchen, storage rooms and banquet hall.

THIS IS the frontal view of the beautiful new T-shaped etaintess-sleel constructed Fall Creek Potkway Branch Y.M.C.A. Considered one of the city's prize architectural feats, the imposing structure spreads over 2.8 acres, and was built at a cost of $1,250,000 and paid for by nearly 3,000 contributors of every race and creed. THE Y.M.C.A. has come a long way since that Sunday, Oct. 29, 1900, when Dr. H. L. Hummons and his friend Dr. Dan H. Brown, called a meeting at the Ninth Presbyterian Church, located on West Michigan Street near
Illinois Street with the idea in mind of forming a recreation center for Negroes. At that meeting there were six in attendance. They were: Dr. Hummons; the Rev. D. D. Minor, pastor of the church; William Harvey, Douglas Carter, J. John Carter and T. P. Spillman, a promising young interior decorator. OUT Of this young organization came the Colored Men's Prayer Band of Indianapolis, which later became the Colored YMCA on March 30, 1902. And today this massive structure stands as a giant oak to the memory of the men who saw the vision for such an institution back in 1900.
