EVANSVILLE — George L. Weaver, secretary of the civil rights committee of Washington, D. C., and William Oliver, co-direc-tor of anti-discrimination, were in Evansville recently for a special meeting with the CIO Industrial ? Union Council.
Claude Henry Holbrook, chair- r man of the grievance committee I and co-chairman of the labor committee of the Evansville NAACP, j presided over the meeting, out of which grew recommendations that : the FEPC committee be enlarged and make a survey of all plants | regarding hiring policies and that a weekend conference be set up to educate members on FEPC. antidiscrimination and civil rights. Representatives of various organizations in the city were invited to attend the conference meeting. Both the visiting speakers are nationally known UAW-CIO figures. Oliver being co-director of the fair practices and anti-discrim-ination department working with Walter P. Reuther. director.
