Hampton Board Is Silent on Choice For Next "Proxy" HAMPTON. Va. (ANP)—The report persists in educational circles at Hampton and the immediate -ommunitv that there is a possibility that the post of president of Hampton institute will be offered Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, president of Morehouse collefie at Atlanta. On. It is generally conceded that Hampton’s board of trustees will I settle on some outstanding educator to tender the offer of the presidency of the historic institution within a year. It is also believed that a Negro will be named to the j position if one can be selected | who is available for the work. No official word has come from the board as yet. and Dr. Chan- | ning H. Tobias, board chairman, has remained discreetly silent about the matter since the rumors have been circulating in this area.

Britain Bars 'UN' Council Survey Of Empire Making LONDON (ANP) — With the treatment of millions of darker races heavy on its conscience, Great Britain has served advance notice to the United Nations trusteeship council that it will not allow the Empire’s dirty linen to be washed in public. The council is to take up data filed by member states at the next General assem-
bly.
The British colonial office last \ week issued a memorandum re-! iterating that Britain would permit | no interference in the iron clad | rule of her colonial subjects. While the decision applies to all colonies it is especially significant, insofar as African areas are concerned. It follows the same pattern, j which the British-ruled Union of, South Africa flung in the face of the trusteeship council, when she refused to permit the council to probe Southwest Africa, which she wishes to absorb and rape as she has done Africans in her own area. Further shame was added to the situation when the United States voted with South Africa and France and Belgium against forcing colonial governments to give information.
