Mrs. Hortense Young, local newspaper woman, has entered the rae< as a candidate for the board ol education. Wife of Dr. C. Milton Young, the enthusiastic office aspirant is a native of Houston. Her educational background includes degrees from Fisk university and the University of Illinois. Mrs. Young did special graduate work at the University of Chicago and New York university. Fcr two years, she taught Latin and English in the high school in Houston and was librarian at the Louisville Municipal college foi seven years. After resigning the latter position in 1943, Mrs. Young was appointed research editor of the Louisville Defender. Her civic duties include more than a year’s service as supervisor of the Traveler’s Aid USO lounge. Union Station; membership on the mayor's interracial committee and activity with the Madison Junior High school Par-ent-Teachers Association. The office for which Mrs. Young is candidate is non-political. Her campaigners are Charles W. Anderson, Jr., local attorney and legislator, and William Warley, editor of the Louisville News.
