The A-V-E-N-O-O by THE SAINT Defense workers from all parts of the city are busy this week raising their voices in holy horror concerning the new 1 A. M., closing hour for EATERIES giving off a little added entertainment for the pleasure of those who work late and have little time for recreation. They don’t seem to be able to understand just why the POFERS-THAT-BE are so anxious to understand just why the POWERS-THAT-BE arc so anxious VRES at such an EARLY HOUR. They are of the opinion that the local GENDARMES should permit a little wholesome entertainment along the MAIN STEM until at least 2 O’CLOUR, which would afford those who work the middle shift to eat their midnite lunches in peace and enjoy a song or two before turning in after a hard 8 or 10 hours’ work. This writer, because of his interest in AMUSEMENTS, fails, to understand this method in somebody’s MADNESS. We cannot see why a town as big as Indianapolis, would want to close tl ese LEGIMATE EATERIES up so early. We know that tiiese people crave some place to go and enjoy themselves without fear of being molested by the local CONSTABULARY. We, of course, are REFERRING to those places which are operating within the law. These entertainment spots are doing a lot of good towards keeping down crime in the city, because they do ke^p pleasure-seekers in one part of the city, thereby keeping them from roaming the streets looking for some place to go after working hours. What is your OPINION on the MATTER? Write us a short letter TODAY expressing your feelings on the subject. ****** We suggest that the owners of these entertainment spots get together ami organize for the mutual protection of all concerned. For ’tis said that “In Union there is STRENGTH ”. So why not get together and instead of protesting as individuals, you’ll be able to protest as a group. Don’t-cha think this is a good idea ? ****** Thanks to those people who liked our letter to Cpl. Opal Tandy last week, and we are very sorry that we left out so many names. W r e won’t forget you the next time. Thanks to Mrs. Joyce Thompson (Recorder Bizz mgr.) and her sou, George, now with Uncle Sam’s army in Hawaii for their birthday remembrance. It was FINE! ****** A large crowd is expected for The Recorder Search For Talent Contest, which is booked for June 28 at the Mt. Paran Baptist church. Several local singers have entered the contest and, the affair looms as the largest of its kind ever held in Naprown. The winner of the contest will go to Chicago to participate in the Finals. The gneeral public is cordially in vited to come out and give their moral support to theae young-
sters.
Business men and women and individuals can contribute a lot to the success of the affair by adding their names to the PATRONS list which will be published in The Recorder next week. There’ll be no ADMISSION charge at the door. Come out and bring your friends. ****** Wesley O. Jackson, well-known local sports promoter, is now so-journeying in the sunny South. A card from Mr. Jackson arrived today (Tuesday) from Atlanta, on which he wrote: “It’s true what they say about Dixie”. That’s one mans ofiinion. Ain’t that so? ****** It seems to us that there are absolutely too much gun-toting along the Main Stem. We counted in one evening at least li persons with pistols'. And please don’t say aythig about those butcher knives seen up and down the Avenoo. Women also carry these large carving knives and will start butchering up a friend or foe on the least provocation. This is a sad state of affairs and something should be done about it. PRONTO. ****** Several squad cars answered an emergency call to the 500 block along the street of many restaurants, where it was reported that somebody had shot somebody else. The thing turned out to be a false alarm. Whoever turned in that false alarm is certainly playing with dynamite. It is dangerous business, and the culprit should be behind bars if and when caught. Anything could have happened to those officers en route to the scene. However, the ofay copper who opened the way from his car with his billy in people’s ribs, could have started something out of nothing. He must be a recruit, because older heads would have used better judgment, since they knew' by that time that it was a false alarm. 1 - - - ■ 1 ■ —: ■ ■— ■ ■ ' ■ ■ - - — Log Cabin Supper Club Open As Usual
