September Marks Start of Annual College Exodus Telephones jangling, typewriters clanking, train whistles shrieking, more bells, the shuffle of feet, shouting goodbyes, hurried last-minute admonitions, the joistling of suitcases, and shouts of conductors, brakemen, and “red caps,” a jargon of incoherent sounds and then silence and the realization that the crowd of college folk are off for another year in the institutions of higher learning of their choices. The annual exodus has already begun with scores of others leaving this week and next. Annually reaping quite a few of Indianapolis young folk, Indiana university at Bloomington will see the return of many veterans while a number of others are just entering the school. Herman and Frank Battles, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Battles entered as freshmen. Miss Georgia Marie (Battles, their daughter who attended Butler university last year registered for her sophomore year. James Howard Thornton, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Thornton, and Jotfh Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lee, and Miss Louise Henry, daughter of Atty. and Mrs. W. S. Monice. enroute to Memphis, via Chicago. after having attended the Letter Carriers convention which recently convened in Los Angeles. Returns From Western Trip
Mrs. Alfred Armour, and niece. Gayle Deloris Burks have just returned from a two months vacation in Los Angeles and a short stay in St, Lonia. While in California, they were the guests of relatives Atty. and Mrs. E. R. Driver, Dr. Forrester Driver. Rev. Louis Driver, Mason Driver and families. They were widely entertained during their stay with dinners, barbecues, garden parties and picnics. During their visit, little Miss Burks was given a surprise birth day party at the home of her aunt, Mrs. E. R. Driver. She received many gifts and souvenirs. A nice club for nice people. A well equipped club for well behaved people. The cocktail lounge is becoming quite popular with the afternoon patronage and the cafeteria presided over by Mesdames Dunn and Wilson is becoming a place to enjoy a meal and lunch. Quite a few clubs have called concerning open dates for private parties. These pleasant evenings find the members out in goodly numbers. We were glad to welcome our old friend A1 Ferguson home.
