Grand Reception Given By Greater Bethel, Honoring Pastor
thanksgiving Again the time of year to give thanks has approached us. It is not necessary that one should have a ten pound turkey with cranberry sauce to give thanks. Rev. and Mrs. Clarke will make their home here permanently* Y. M. C. A. QUARTET The Y. M. C. A. Foster quartet accompanied by Harry Campbell spent the week-end in Pittsburgh where J. K. Lilly, founder of the Stephen Foster Shrine presented them in the new Carnegie Hall in Pittsburgh. The quartet is one of the oldest organizations in the city. The members are Wallace Wolfolk, George Robinson, Jr., Charles Samuels, and Clarence Hicks. HOUSE GUEST Jesse Phillips of Newport, R. I., was the house guest last week of his niece, Mrs. Lucille Hawkin, 409 W. 26th street. While here he also visited Mrs. Pauline Adams and Mrs. Mable Bowles, also nieces. GUEST OF MRS. BAKER Mrs. Josephine Baker, 131 W. 11th street, had as guest over the week-end, Hugh L. Gaines, of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Gaines is one of the outstanding chemists of Cleveland. RETURNED Victoria Smith, 1105 N. Missouri street, has returned from IGallatin, Tenn., where she accompanied the remains of her brother, Gene Cantrell. VISITS MOTHER Mrs. Mary Ethel Johns, of Louisville, Ky., spent Wednesday in the city the guest of her mother, Mrs. Pearl Chambers. MRS. KNOX REMAINS ILL Mrs. Sue Knox, who was injured in an automobile accident several weeks ago, is still confined to the City hospital. Arthur Crabtree Is Guest Speaker For Adult School Arthur J. Crabtree, State Supervisor of General Adult subjects was the guest speaker for the Hill Center school of adult education Friday, at which time, they oh served American Education week Mrs. Ruth Miller introduced the speaker. Mrs. Susie Nelson was mistress of ceremonies. A musical program preceded the address. Those participating on the program were: The Planner House hoys novelty band under the direction of Mr. Hendon; Mrs. Ada Thompson of New Bethel Baptist church; Mrs. Ross of Emunue Baptist church; Howard Clark acting director of the J. T. V. Hill center presented the teachers of the school. Rev. Fleing pronounced the benediction.

Rev. Henderson And Wife Receive Appreciation Tokens On last Thursday evening at 9 o'clock, a procession headed by the stewards and trustees of Greater Bethel A. M. E. church, and followed by the pastor and wife, Rev. and Mrs. R. C. Henderson, the presiding elder and wife. Rev. and Mrs. J. E. Bradford, of Terre Haute; Rev. and Mrs. G. R. Jackson, of Seymour; Rev M. D. Robinson, assistant pastor of the church, and other honored guests filed into the banquet hall of the church, where members awaited their arrival. » *!*| The first Sunday in October*marked the beginning of the fourth year 'the Rev. Mr. Henderson has pastored the Greater Bethel A. M. E. church. Palms, cut flowers, and rqses transformed th^ banquet hall into a veritable garden of beauty for the reception. Georgeous chrysanthemums donated by Mrs. AnnaBarrett, blended with beautifully shaded floor lamps artistically placed here and there throughout
the hall.
The procession was met by Mrs. Minnie Richey, chairman of the committee on decorations, and escorted to their places at the guest table. The pastor and wife occupying the center seats at the table, the other gufcsts seated were the Presiding Elder and wife, Stewards and Trustees, Mrs. May Belcher, secretary of the Y. W. C. A.; Rev. U. S. Robinson, evangelist of Detroit; Rev. Dr. Holloway of Columbus, Ohio; Rev. A. W. Womack and wife, Phillips Temple C. M. E.; Rev. and Mrs. H. H. Black, Allen Chapel A. M. E. church, and Mrs. Lillian M. LeMon, president of the Cosmopolitan School of Music. Mrs. Carrie Crump was mistress of ceremonies and general chairman of the reception committee which included besides the Trustees and Stewards, Mrs. Bessie Robinson, Mrs. Sallie IMartin, Mrs. May Fly, Mrs. Emma Taylor, Mrs. P. Crawford, Mrs. Sarah Manuel, Mrs. Ida Williams, Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, Mrs. Ethel Baley, Mrs. W. B. Flowers, Mrs. Sarah Releford, JMrs. Pattie McDowell, Mrs. Carrie Smith, Mrs. Bertha Graham. Frank Brown, director of the senior choir and chairman of the program committee announced the opening number, “Blest be the tie that binds,’’ which was followed by prayer; a trio, "If You Love Him, Tell Him So,” was beautifully rendered by Frank Brown, Mrs. Elsie Garrett, and Mrs. Susie Goodwin. Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Garrett gave Special fcolo numbers, which received tremendous applause. They were accompanied at the piano (by J. W. Henderson, eldest son of the pastor. A reading given by Mrs. Pansy Smith was well received; two duet numbers by Mrs. Charley Ray and Mrs. Helen Jefferson accompanied' by Miss Ray were beautifully ren-
dered.
Mrs. Crump then presented Judge F. B. Ransom who delivered a masterly address of w elcome on the behalf of the Trustee board and the business interests of the city; he w r as followed by Miss May Belcher, representing the social and religious interests of the city; Madam Lillian M. LeMon, representing the musical interests: Rev. H. H. Black and Rev. A. W. Womack, representing the churches; Mrs. Flossie Bailey, of Marion, Rev. Holloway of Columbus, Ohio,
