Amusements
(By JIM TAYLOR) LOS ANGELES, Cal., Jan. 27.—I promised at the East-West baseball game in Chicago last September 10th that I'd release tcPyou some facts relative to the A. R. C.’s-Detroit stars failure last summer in the National Baseball league. I left Indianapolis last March 25th with two cars and seven men for a training trip at Meridian, Miss., with two cars and $37.50. Members of the Booster Club: George Ray, Ed Gaillord, E. A. James, Russell Lane, B. Mitchell, Mr. Hill and others advanced me this sum so I could teach my destination, promising me more help if I needed it. Upon my arrival at Meridian, Miss., March 27th. I had exactly 75c left with which to begin my training t.ip ihronghout the south. We played through the pre-season training period and returned to Indianapolis in twenty-one days. The league opened and after two weeks of it, I ssw that my club was not strong enough to draw the people, knowing that my friends were unwilling to go into a hole under those conditions, and upon seeing an opportunity to make some money and pay some of my obligations, 1 went to Columbus, Ohio, and explained my predicament. I was advised to go to Detroit where possibilities seemed favorable. I returned to Indianapolis and explained my conditions to all who were concerned here and just what I was going to do; each person thought it best, that I go through with what I was advised in do. Under those conditions most men would have disbanded their team and gone no further, but I had men from all over the country and had brought them to Indianapolis and was determined to play baseball, so I went to Detroit. While in that city I found just about the same thing that I left in Indianapolis and had to do some thing immediately to get those men home. I called Tom Wilson and Gus Greenlee, chairman of the league who had, in the meantime, called a meeting of the league at Pittsburgh. I told them that Detroit could go no further in the league and asked them to book me in the south so I could get my men home. At the time I left Detroit for the south, my men were living just as good as some players on other teams, and all had their expenses and about three dollars a week. When I got ready to leave for the south, I had a meeting with the players and told them just what I was going to do (to be continued next week).

which Battaglia claimed thai Inwas fouled. The commission has instituted a no foul ruling forcing the Canadian to light ii out. When the Terre Haute middleweight takes the ring a hard gruelling battle is likely to result; Slaughter has a slight advantage.
Roosevelt-Lincoln Basketball Dope
In comparing the records of two of the leading prep cage teams in the state who are scheduled to meet Friday night at Evansville when Roosevelt and Lincoln take the floor, we find on paper that the Gary team will have a very slight advantage on a strange floor which means that Evans-
ville has a good chance of emerging victor.

A. lb. is one of the finest things in local boxing circles, this clean amateur sport is one of the major enterprises for the individual boxer when he has accomplished the feat of getting to the top. We find boxers drawing millions yearly in this one sport; once upon a time there were many Negroes ranking at the top, but now there are less than a dozen who, are drawing the big money. Such affairs as the one which the A. A. U. will put over will serve as a stepping stole to get to the top.

MUNCIE, Ind., Jan. 27.—Coach Grider’s Hi-Y netmen got revenge from the Shelby ville Trojans recently when they dropped them in a onesided game 30-12 here on the
local floor.
The attack that completely demoralized the visitros was lead by Captain Nelson and Board, for- ; wards; Fowlkes, center; and Parnell, guard whho sent the Hi-Y team far into the lead. ; A futile attempt by F. Caceal and Byrd made only gestures at the determined Hi-Y who maintained a huge lead from start to finish.
