TERRE HAUTE, IND.
P. W. Corley—2133 Spruce St. Emancpation Day In Terre Haute— The 22nd of September was celebrated and the spirit of which was highly demonstrated by all whose privilege it was to participr.te. At 11:00 a. m., a large and the most enthusiastic street parade that bespoke the high pride and undaunted Icyalty of our group, was set in motion, which was made up of highspirited, race loving and loyal hearted men, women and children. We do not mean to say that the parade was made up of all of the loyal hearted and race loving Negroes of Terri Haute. But the question is being asked on every hand, where were the other loyal race loving citizens o. Terre Haute, on that day, that they did not take part in the parade" In the face of the fact, we have at least a dozen ministers, who an holding charges in the city and out of that number only two were represented: Rev. (Brown of Allen chapel and Rev. J. S. A. Mitcham ol Spruce Street church; and two out ol a score of teachers, in whose band.' are entrusted to a great extent tinshaping of their childrens lui-.n lives and for whom the citizens have recently put forth much interest In trying to retain and only lour wen in evidence during the parade. Whsit excuse have they to offer; also, we have four doctors and only om seemed to be able to spare the short time required to show forth his race pride and loyalty and that one wa Dr. H. Sloss and for whom many an loud in praise of him. No one b critcizing those who failed to play their part, for they surely had a reason for not and if a good reason all is well, if not good, take warning. * A Progressive Penny drive, began Thursday October 5. to be held seven nights, October 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 and 26.
