A large number of members and friends of Spruce St. church attended the Musical Tea Sunday afternoon at the home of Misses Celia and Ethel Upthegrove given by Rescue club. Secure your ticket for the pastor's supper, to be served Monday at the church. Pastor and Mrs. S. A. Mitcham will be glad td eat this last supper with them, before going to conference. Moses Grandison, a young progressive minister of the city, has been filling the pulpit at the First Baptist church during t h e pastor’s vacation. He preached a wonderful sermon Sunday morning. Prof. D. H. Anderson, president of the Western Kentucky State Normal was in thp city on business last week. A. A. Payne, Assistant Corp. Council of Chicago, and Mr. Morris were in the city last week in the interest of the Republican party so far as the colored citizens are concerned. They had several meetings with the colored and white Republicans of the city and the immediate community. The following changes have been made at the State Normal and Industrial college: Prof. P. W. L. Jones, dean, has resigned his position to become principal of a school in Cincinnati, O., and Prof. Bond has been appointed to fill the place on the faculty. * Miss Lucille Bivens of Louisville, Ky., and Prof. John Williams of Oklahoma, have been added to the faculty for the ensuing year. Owens and Jerome of Dayton were on their way here Saturday night and about two or three miles up the river, went over an embankment. Zion Baptist church, was present with his people and delivered a soul stirring sermon at 11:30, using as a subject, “Wait On The Lord.” Psalms 27-14. The evening services were very impressive .The Lord’s supper was served at 8 o’clock. Rev. Yarbough was present and assisted in the services. * The Rev. Ford also conducted services at the usual hours for St. Paul Baptist church. * Miss Francis Miles left Saturday for Terre Haute, where she will enter the State Normal. Mrs. A. News was received Monday announcing the passing away of Rev R. B. James, former pastor of Mt. Liberty Baptist church of this city H e visited this city in March and spoke at the M. E church in the afternoon and at night at the Baptist church. He had been in failing health for over a year. Rev. James pastored i n this city about twelve years ago leaving here to accept a call in Detroit, where he was instrumental in building a costly structure, known as Shiloh Baptist church. His death was keenly felt in this city, where he has a host of friend? among colored and white. * A Republican club was organized by the colored citizens last Monday nite. Following are the officers elected: president, Louis Gill, vice pres., Mrs. Susan Brown; sec., Eltee Loving; asst, sec., Mrs. Eva Green; treas., Mrs. Lydia Simmons. Executive committee: Rev. J. H. Rolling, chm.; Mrs. Mary Casey, Geo. Walker, James Green and Mrs. Eva Hartaway. * Advisory board. W. W. Loving, chm.; W. Green. R Waller, Mrs. Mattie Green. Meetings will be held every Thursday night. * Boonville sent a large number to Lincoln park at Lincoln City, Sunday. An excellent program was given in the afternoon. Rev. J. H.
