“Stretching backward as over 2,000 years we can yet see signs of their efforts as revealed in the text and history of philosophy. Men like W. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Immanuel Kant, and many other philosophers, tried the task of satisfying the question of the nature of God. Spinoza, the Jew, in his efforts to clear the mind of the world on the question of the nature of God, intelligence and morals, matter and mind, religion and immortality, was a miserable failure. Kant in all his wide range of transcendentalism and his suggestin to theologians to abandon the idea of external designs as sufficient proof of Providence and the scientist who has abandoned the idea to return to it again and interpret the parts of an organism in terms of. their meaning for the whereupon he) promises them an admirable bal-; ance for the : heuristic principles, the mechanical conception of life, was a gust of wind to be compared with the great storm of truth which the world was then seeking and needed. Spencer fell down in his effort to satisfy the need of the world and Herbert Spercer did no less. All of these needed a truer knowledge of God.” — oOo Chicago Minister Says He Was Asked T o Pay For Job CHICAGO, August 31.—(ANP)— One of the most important aftidavits yet secured by the investigat ors for the special grand jury which is investigating political and election cirmes here as a result of the murder on primary day of OcLvious Granady, candidate for ward committeeman against Morris Eller, white, was obtained Friday from the Rev. The Madam C. J. Hundreds of Walker agents and many prominent men came from twenty-six different states to witness the official dedication of the building and to take part in the convention procedure. Of course most of these were women, for women after all, represent the entire agency force of the company with so men toilet goods agents, and this the exception of a scattered dozen or convention is tKeirs, theoretically and practically.
