'{Chicago Policeman Gets Promotion CHtCAGO, 111., Jan. 6.—(By The Associated Negro Press)—Colored Chicago felt that it shared the honor with Police Sergeant John F. Scott last Friday when it was announced that Commissioner of Police Hughes had appointed Sergt. Scott a lieutenant of police, one of three officers, the other two being white, who received similar commissions as a Christmas present. Lieut. Scott has been in Chicago twenty-five years, having come here from Houston, Tex. Before entering the police department twentyonft years ago, he was in the haberdashery business with Sandy .Trice for two years at 2918 South
State street.
For twelve years he was a patrolman, but eight years ago he was appointed a sergeant under Chief 1 Garrity. The examination for lieutenant was taken four years']

Although the section is rapidly
returning to a sound economic condition, Mr. Fieser reported that :the credit corporations formed there to help finance planters over the exacting post-flood period, will continue to fhnction for another
|year.
Health conditions in all affected states are excellent they found, with less disease and sickness prevalent than there has been in'these , states for many years. Mr. Fi-es-er* attributed this to the extensive small-pox vaccination and typhoid fever immunization campaigns of the Red Cross and the
health authorities.
Fieser ' and Secretary of lerce Hoover concentrated efforts on this trip to makample provisions to meet the Rter needs of the sufferers.
