The heat of the water bottle soon departs, so that where the heat application is desired for any prolonged period of time it is necessary to renew the water at frequent intervals. By means of an electrical stopper for this useful article the temperature may be maintained at a constant point for an indefinite time. The usual threaded stopper is supplied with means for making connection with the house current and at the other side has an extension into the interior of the l>ottle with the necessary elements for heating the w r ater. The temperature of the latter may be regulated by the amount of current turned into it, and this is controlled by a convenient switch, so that any temperature of water may be had, and it may be maintained at that point for any desired time without the trouble of refilling or any other atten tion.

NEW POST FOR MRS. WINSTON

Well Known Trained Nurse to Super-

Y. M. C. A. NOTES.

Always thoroughly dry the hair after cleansing. After this a gentle but firm brushing is necessary. The brushing should always be in the direction of the hair growth. The oily matter in the hair will not then be forced out too quickly.

* « *

Dandruff is one. of the most common causes of the loss of hair. There are many remedies advocated for its cure, but none seem to be as efficacious as our UNEEDA DANDERCIDE AND SHAMPOO—a 2-in-1 preparation. It ' not only cleanses the hair and scalp better and thoroughly but is a sure destroyer of scalp diseases. It shampoos as well as kills disease.

* * *

Constant brushing will do more to improve the condition and appearance of the hair than the use of hot irons. The morning is the best time for this to be done, as the hair is then more supple. Not more than twenty minutes should be occupied in the process, and the brushing should not extend beyond

the hair. * * *

The scalp should be washed only and least once a week; rinse well and dry carefully with a cloth after each operation.

* * *

The brushes and combs should always be kept clean.

The following is an extract from an editorial that appeared in one of the i local daily papers in calling attention of the public to the necessity of pro-

Mr. Earl Keen, of this city, was graduated from the Sampaix School of^Piona last week. He is the first and only colo^A p^iuate of that school, which is located on North Pennsylvania street. Mr. Keen was a former pupil of Miss Ellen Thomas, to whom he gives much credit for his success. Mr. Keen will open a studio for a limited class this fall.

The Union league, the newly organized body formed along political and race welfare lines, held an enthusiastic meeting at its headquarters, 517 North West street. Five new members were added to the roster of this energetic organization and many questions affecting the interests of the race were discussed and acted upon. The thirty days’ campaign, for new members has reached fever heat, as each member is expected to bring in at least five applications before the campaign closes. It was also voted to hold a banquet at the close of the campaign. The league also voted to add a judiciary committee, whose duties would be to give proper attention to the courts of the city and county in which members of the race might appear for trial. That many innocent Negroes are virtually railroaded to prison for the lack of “friends” at court is the general belief, and the league, like many other races, feels that each and every Negro charged with any crime is at least entitled to a fair trial and, if innocent, should be acquitted. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, July 11.
