One of the most notable events of many seasons was the response of three hundred representative women of the city and surrounding towns, to the invitation of Mrs William Elliott Brown, ‘ to meet and hear Miss Nannie Helen Burroughs, President of National Training School for

MIS.S NANNIE H. BrnUOUOHS. Women and Girls, Washington, D C. Wednesday at 4 o'clock, at the Educational Rooms, Y M. C. A. Building.” At the appointed hour, Mrs.

ided attention of every one there. She showed to them that every one has a talent to be developed for the upbuilding of the Race and God’s Kingdom. That their duty began In the home and tha next door neighbor, that the opportunity is with us every moment. She also gave a short account of the School, of which she is president, supported by 50,000 Baptist women, this school of vocational training for our girls, training them for higher things, bringing out all that God has endowed them with, for the citizenshipj of this country, for the motherhood of the race. The school, just about three years old, is self sustaining, as far as any other race is concerned.. One building has been partly given by the American Baptist Society (white) in memory of their late secretary. Other buildings will be added this year, and a social center in Washington, under the control of this institution, will be opened and conducted t>y young women who have taken the training there. Miss Burroughs further says that it rests with the women, the salvation of the race. That they must be up and doing. After the address, the guests were introduced to Miss Burroughs and refreshments were served It was not onlv a very pleasant afternoon but a profitable one. It is an inspiration to hear and see in the real flesh and blood, one, one of our very own who is doing something. It is hoped that Miss Burroughs’ visit to this city will be far reaching in good, and that the realization of something most needed in this city will date its inspiration to the visit of Nannie Helen Burroughs, Wednesday.
