An old-fashioned country school Christmas entertainment was carried out by members of the Altrusa Club at the annual * Christmas party Thursday evening following a dinner at the Claypool hotel. Mrs. DeWave I. Payne was the teacher, and Miss Anna L Abel and Mrs. Ida G. Belxer the trustees. Mr*. Jocelyn Courtwright recited an original poem and aiao played with Mr*. Seventeen women, members of the home and education section of the Woman’s Department Club, were the guests Thursday of Clarence L Kirk, vice-president and general manager, and other officers of the Indianapolis j Water Company, in a tour of ins pec- i tion of the company’s plants. The . tour was the result of a resolution offered at a meeting of the senate of i the home and education section of f tbe club, in which It was urged that : the water company be compelled to supply soft water through it* main# Mr. Kirk and other officers took the women to see the plant at Schofield’s Mills, northeast of the city, land the filtering and pumping station In North Indianapolis. They visited the laboratory and saw how thirty to forty samples of water, taken dally from water lines in different parts of the city, were tested
for purity.
Luncheon was served et the North Indianapolis pumping station, following which Mr. Kirk explained that, to produce soft water in the water mains of Indianapolis, necessarily would mean an increase in cost of at least 59 per cent. He said the processes for softening water were very costly, as had been proven in
