day-—Military Funeral at Mnnrle. f Special to The Indianapolis News} MUNCIE, Ind., April 2«.—The body
of Private William M. Thomas, one of the first Delaware county men to enlist for the world war, is being brought home, two years after the
young man's death at Brest, France. The transport bearing Private
Thomas’s body with those of a number of other American soldiers, is due to dock at Hoboken. X. J.. Thursday, and the body will arrive here two or three days later, to be buried in the American Legion plot in Beech Grove cemetery. A military funeral will be
held in the charge of the local Legion post. Private Thomas was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Thomas, of Royerton. sir miles north of here. He enlisted in September, 1917, and died April 24. 2918, in a military hospital. His body was buried in the American military cemetery at Brest. The parents, a brother. Richard Thomas, and a sister, Mrs. W. F. Evans. ID’e here.

LONDON. April 26.—Lord Dewar, who has Just tstarned from Central Africa, in giving an account of his travels there, said the increased cast of living in the district bo visited was reflected In the higher price for wives paid by the natives. Whereas a fine, sixteen hands-hlgh wife cost four spearheads in prewar days, she now costs eight spearheads. Lord Dewar said, and in the cattle districts, the price of a wife at present Is eight cows instead of font.

F.entall, former Socialist candidate for Governor of Minnesota, convicted of violation of the espionage act. was sentenced to two years in the federal prison at Leavenworth, Kas, by Judge Page Morris in United States district court today. The specific charge against Bent&ll was that he obstructed the army and navy programs of the United States by a speech delivered July 31, 1917. at Hutchinson, Minn.

Indiana
, annual conference of the Indiana district of the German Evangelical Synod of North America will be held in the Bethel Evangelical church at Freelandville, In the north part of this county, beginning Thur*day evening. About 100 minister* and as many laymen are entitled to voting privilegee and most of them aro
expected to attend.
The Indiana district comprises most of Indiana, eastern and western Ohio, eastern Illinois and virtually all of Kentucky. Alabama and Georgia. Seventy-one churches are in the Indiana division of the district, twentytwo in Kentucky, twenty-five in Ohio, one at Birmingham, Ala., one at Atlanta, Ga., and two In Illinois. The conference will open with a synodical service, one sermon being In German and one in Enalfsh. The latter will be by the Rev. J. A. Over-
beck, pastor of St. John's Evangelical church, this city. A memorial service will be held Friday evening at which two sermon# will be preached. Three service# will be held Sunday. Reports will be heard on credentials, excuses, applications for membership of congregations, registration and traveling expenses of the delegates, election, seminary board, synodical treasurer, board of finance and board of church extension, board of control of Eden Publishing House, district missions, emigrant mission board, foreign mission board. Young People’s league, pension board, statistics, committee, brotherhood, fir# insurance, benevolence and welfare, district vice-president, equalization or traveling expenses of the pastors, and the general president and district presidsnts.
