Embargoes against the shipments of live stock into Indianapolis have been lifted on all divisions of the Pennsylvania and the Big Four, on the Monoq and Illinois Central railroads and it was expected at the yards that the C., L & W. and the L. E. A W. would raise the embargo late In the day. This would give free access for inbound business but the situation regarding outbound shipments is no better. Only one road, the Big Four as far as Cleveland, is accepting eastern shipments of live
stock.
In raising the embargoes the railroads specifled they would not receive business from connecting lines. Receipts of all kinds of live stock at the local market on Wednesday were small, 400 hogs, 100 cattle, 50 calves and 10 sheep, and only 630 hogs and a few cattle, calVes or sheep were held over from the day before. Hog buyers who were out of the market on Tuesday started the trading on the midweek market and bought a drove of more than 200 light hogs at $16.50, ah advance of 50c. About the same time a smaller packer paid $16.75, and subsequently several more loads sold at that price. Sellers asked up to $17.00. Only a few hogs were left unsold. Heavy hogs sold late Tuesday at $15.00, and on a 50c higher basis the Wednesday range in sales would have been $15.50 to $16.60, with $16.75 the outside price. There were no well defined prices for pigs, and sows sold frOm $12.50 down. The Indianapolis Abattoir Company was the only one of the three leading local killers that was in the market. There were 10.000 more hogs in eleven markets than on Tuesday, but the total for three days was only 87.000 hogs, against 274,000 the same time last week. 362,060 a year ago and 887.000 two years ago. The Chicago live stock trade is apprehensive of a glut when the embargo is lifted. Cattle and hogs have banked up in country. This accumulation in Chicago territory estimated at 150,000 cattle and 300,000 hogs. Apprehension exists that the common price of hogs will drop to $12.00.
Thomson A McKinnon—The rally in lard looks purely technical, natural reaction in sympathy with a little higher prices for hogs. The situation remains very bearish on account of the extraordinary large stocks
of lard and poor demand.

April 14.—The Northwestern Miller’s weekly review of the flour trade says: Flour prices have gone up 10c to 25c a barrel in the last week, reflecting the strength and tear city of good milling wheat. The demand for patents has been light but sufficiently improved over the extreme dullness of recent week* to indicate a coining revival In domestic demand. Clears tionally good he^car shortterfered with the operations of some of the mills but in general the output has remained fairly steady. The Kansas-Okla-boma hard winter wheat mills reported an output last week representing 47 per cent, of capacity. The Ohio valley soft winter wheat mills 44 per cent, and the spring wheat mills, 34 per cent.

Thomson A McKinnon’s Market Letter. —April 14— Stocks—Judging from the action of the stock market this morning one would suppose that all waa peaceful throughout the world, no troubles of any kind. Though there was no real change in the railroad labor controversy, it was resumed that the matter would be quickly adjusted, for upon no other theory could fre explain the confidence displayed and the demand that appeared from various commission houses, as well as from professional circle#. Stocks of all kinds were in demand, particularly the sugar, some of the oils, motor#. #teel#, and a few of the rail#. . The money situation i# not given the serious consideration it i# entitled to. the trading public are impressed solely with the great dividend possibilities and are being encouraged daily by new announcements. The market is all right and the conditions a* they exist mean an indefinite period of prosperity for various corporations, but we must not dose sight of the credit situation and therefore it would not be At all out of place or inconsistent witb a friendly attitude to market some long stocks on bulges as they appear. . ^ J Cotton—The weekly weathw* report describing conditions in the cotton belt wss certainly not of a character to encourage a bearish position on cotton. The market is no longer the active affair, however, that it The future rests entirely with weather conditions and. in vie* of the unsatisfactory start, advantage will be taken of every unfavorable turn in the weather to advance

because of the constant foreign demand for wheat and rye it is not probable that periods of weakness ip com will be protracted or important. ** Oata—The idea of lower prices prevailed in oats. This idea seems based almost entirely upon prevailing prices. In view of small reserves, light visible supply and considerable premium for available cash oats, the ideas do not seem warranted. The foreign needs for breadstuff# will overcome theories of lower prices for coarse grains. Barley sold at $1.72, a new high for the ^Provision#—The immediate underlying situation in hog products does not argue for higher prices. Market is dull. There is a belief that settlement of the strike will release accumulations of live stock in sufficient volume to weaken the mark eta

Peach Crop Reported Killed. [Special to The Indianapolis News]
SHOALS, Ind.. April 14.—Fruit growers say the peach crop has been killed by the continued cold weather. Apples seem to be standing the cold well and other fruit, it is> said, will not be severely injured. In seme parts of the county live stock is being turned out to shift for Hself as feed is too high to buy. As a result much stock is reported dying. Pastures are too short to sus-
tain animal life.
