ISIlT0i?08,739,120 CERTIFICATION TO tHE STATE BOARD BELIEVED FINAL.

The state board of tax commissioners yesterday received from W. B. Butler, deputy auditor of Marion county, a certification that Cente township, inside of Indianapoilx has been assessed at a total of $599,575.•09, Instead of $674,184,789. as -certified to the board October 19. at that

The certiDcation jesterday showed BO change in the total assessed valuation of Woodruff Place- At Monday's hearing James Showalter, agent for the tax board, said Woodruff Place valuations were $599,909 short of what the tax board intended. M. L. Jefferaon, Center township assessor, said that he had ignored the board's order for a 39 per cent, increase in ail real estate assessments snd a SO per cent, increase In all improvements assessments, because, he said. Woodruff Plai'v had been overassessed and he was about to.make a reduction enual to the increase order when the order arrived, so that he let the assessments stand without change on the ground that the reduction he had planned was balanced by the increase order. The state board today directed Mr. Showalter to go to Mr. Jefferson and have him certify to tho board Woodruff Place real estate and Improvements sAsessmentx respectively, 39 and 30 per cent, higher than they stand in the certification of Marion county assessed valuations as submitted Tuesday by the county auditor's office. Ths action of the board will result in increasing the total Woodruff Place assesments about $500,009. The loss in Center township valuations in other places is said to be due to the fact that early figures submitted were merely estimates based on Incomplete figures, wrhich. it w'as said, were the beet that could be determined at the time because correct figures had not been complied.
