Mr*. Grace Whisman, widow of Walter 3. Whisman, who was killed on the morning of August $ as he rushed to the aid of Charles Holt*, when the latter was attacked, and Mrs. Martha Holt*, wife of Holt*, were released from custody late Saturday The two women were arrested a few hours after the killing and had been hold to the county Jail since that time, charged

with the murder of Whisman.

Justice A. M. Parker, before whom the preliminary trial was held, ruled that there was not sufficient evidence to hold the accused women to the grand jury and ordered their release They had been freed of the charge the day

previous by the coroner's jury. Columbus Man Testifies.

Practically the only new evidence at the hearing that was not introduced at the inquest was that of W. H. Parker. of Columbus, Ind-, a former real estate dealer of this city. Parker told --- - of obtaining Whitman's revolver several aK * r months ago, when Mr- and Mrs. Whisman came to hi* home, Mrs. Whisman refusing to go home until *he had turned over the weapon. He also told of accompanying Mrs. Whitman to picture shows and to the home of a mutual friend in Central park, a suburb of Danville, where they had supper. Whis- * i man was not along on these occasions. ;. but the witness said he made no ohjec- H tions to his wife going. Parker said h he was at Columbus when he received jr a telegram from Mrs. Whisman that her] | husband had been killed. He arrived jj

“BACK TO THE LAND.” Italian Premier'a Injunction—Those Who Urge Strikes “Traitors.” ROME, August 24.—Warning the people to ■ < *go back to the land or Italy is ruined,’* Premier NitU has issued a circular to the prefects of the country urging the workers to speed up production, decrease consumption and eliminate extravagance. The premier asked the prefects to call the attention of the masses to the grave danger threatening Italy, which was lacking to foid. raw materials and tonnage and producing enough for only 15,006.000 or lAOOO.OW Instead of 40.000.008 P ^?he workingmen,” he said, "must renounce absurd wages unless they want to kill industry. He who talks srike Is a traitor. 'The present situation in Europe is the worst In centuries, especially In Italy, which is living on credit. In 1913 we purchased abroad products valued at 1,300.000,000 lire <3380,000,000). In 1918 this total bad increased 12,000.000 lire and In the first five or six months of 1919 our foreign purchases have amounted to 7.000.000.000. Italy needs a credit of 15,000,000,000 lire. England and ! the United States are to a position to furnislmths products we need and the necessary credit, but to obtain these things we must work, produce and ] strengthen our budget.”

Listen to This Man— “All of my financial troubles have been due to the fact that I didn’t commence early enough to save money: “Opportunities have slipped through my fingers for lack of money—my progress has been retarded because I was so long learning the value of a dollar. “I could have been independent years ago if I had been a money saver in my youth.” Our Savings Accounts Offer “100%,Safety; 4% Interest ” Meyer-Kiser Bank 136 East Washington Street

here Saturday morning and turned over tbs revolver which had belonged to

Whisman to Sheriff Knox.

Mystery Still Unsolved.

The mystery surrounding the killing of Whisman is still unsolved, but the state’s attorney evidently plans to continue his investigation, as Parker was served with a summons to appear before the grand jury to October. The two women immediately went to their home to McVey street after the trial. Both families were living in the same house at the time of the murder. Charles Holt*, who was wounded at the same time Whisman was kilted, was able to leave the hospital Saturday.
