I>etails of the league of nations have brought out more interesting things than almost anything happening in recent years — or, at least, since the Ahkoond of Swat came to ,a sad end. First, there was a stipulation that the skull of a South African ruler, which had been taken by a Hun, must be returned. Now we are Introduced to the Island of Tap — a little parcel of land that President Wilson confessed he had not hoard of before. If we are going to have a cable base therp or a wireless base, or anything else, we ought to know more about It. Tap la one of the Carolines and perhaps the most Interesting thing about It Is the kind of money the natives have. Their ordinary currency consists of sheila corresponding to our metal coins, but they have a sort of reserve ik their central bank that If made of huge calcite discs or wheels, from six Inches to twelve feet In diameter, some weighing as much as Gve tons. This so-called money la Quarried in the Pelew ielande, 200 mllea away, and freighted to Yap. where it is plied round the chlePs treasure bouse. It ^e rarely used but makes a fine display. If this country does take over the control of Tap and the Tappers come to visit us It will be well for them to bring along several tons of their money, because they may perchance decide to invest In a beefsteak or a pair of medium-grade shoes.

WOMEN OPEN DRIVE FOR FIFTY LIFE MEMBERSHIPS FOR CLUB
Included In the membership drive of the Woman’s Depsu’tment Club will be a campaign for life members, Mys Mrs. William H. Hefschner, chairman of ths geaersl membership committee. The dub has approximately fifty life membdrs. and it is the desire to bring this total to 190 before the first of next month. Intters are being sent to various business men throughout the city and state by the club, signed by its president. Mra Susan E. H. Perkins, in which she urges their support in the campaign to raise 9tt0,00e with which to build a new clubhouse. The new building will enable the club to expand and increase its work next year. "Although the club Is only Mven yesrs old,’! says Mrs. Perkins, "it began with founders who were experienced clubwomen and waa begun b«caiue of their feeling that the city and state should have a club adequate for self-expression of ail women, that their vision .might be enlarged and their obiigatlonB to the city developed. **®m>ugh the years of our activities, despite the many things accomplished, our dues have remained at |5 a year. "We feel that having been able to accomplish so much with so small an Income, that we can do much more efficient service for the city and state if we have adequate tpola in a well equipped clubhouse. Pf our 70*, members, three-fourths p*y the regulajr dues, while one-fourth are special members, paylog * women have shown Special Interest by becoming life members, thus assuring a stable and dependable nucleus under which the club naav be carried. "We have not asked before for assistance in any way.
