.Mayor Jewett today, issued a pubhp statement in which he directs 5ie atfehtlon of Indianapolis employers to the jobs-for-soldiers situation. He points out the disadvantage of the soldier who is mustered out at present and calls on the employer to get In touch with the local employment bureau conducted by the welfare associations The mavor said "The American army is being demobilised with great rapidity at this time The units now being discharged include many engineers, medical corps, technical and skilled men in various lines These men are coming home long after the signing of the armistice and at a season when the patriotic appeal that found satisfactory peace time Jobs tor the early comers has Jost much of its strength However, they are no less deserving of the cheers and hospitality of Indianapolis than the splendid young fellows we welcomed so enthusiastically In May Many of these boys are seriously in need of assistance from the community They left lucrative
places in civil life to join the army and returning find themselves wi^* out the opportunity to take up these places again, through circumstances over which they have had no control ■ I feel sure that every Indianapolis person, firm or corporation which can furnish employment te one or more of these ex-service men will make the fact known to the employment bureau being operated by the |ocal welfare agencies, iunder the name of the Indianapolis co-ordination committee at 4® South Capitol avenue This committee is now engaged In an intensive campaign for more and better Jobs tor soldiers A feature of this campaign is the publicitv of billboard and poster display The Boy Scouts are doing a splendid patriotic service in distrfbuttngf much of this publicity matter, showing a commendable, loyal I er. n.

Comes’From Brazil. More than 80 per cent of all coffees we consume come from Brasil and the inhabitants of that country are paying us five to seven times the usual price of cotton, and four times the nominal price tor wheat, but on top of It all our government throws us on their mercy by forcing us to exbavMt our cof-

We would be fortunate. Indeed, If there war* smne hoarded stocks In this., country, but since this is out of the question we can expect not only the j premnt high prices to prevail, bdt high-! er one* to come—and soon Our govern- 1 ment has no Jurisdiction over the price*' foreign countries place on their prod-1 ucts, therefore th* least they could do would be to permit th* importer and i roaster to proceed unhampered In untangling mlxup the last uncalled-for restrictions caused We are willing to pay the damagas of mismanagement by some one, whose intentions were (let tm hope) gCKid, but it'* too late for the government to step
