FOR PREPAREDNESS.

Mrs. W. C. Story, President, Says So Before Senate Subcommittee. WASHINGTON. January IS.-The 95,000 women of the Daughters of the American Revolution are pledged to preparedness and adequate national defense, said Mrs. William Gumming Story, president-gen-eral. to the senate subcommittee on universal military service today. She spoke as a member of the special committee representing twenty-five patriotic societies. “I believe that T can speak for the women in favor of the universal service,” Mrs. Story said, "because they have so pledged themselves. The hearts of the women of America are in this movement. We believe it is essential.” Adjutant-General Louis W. Stotsbury, of the New York national guard, pleaded wjth the committee to reaffirm the belief and enactment of the fathers of the nation, that the common defense was intrusted to the people themselves and not to any hired or voluntary force; that it was a right and privilege of every citizen to be trained for that service.
