PRINCETON DISTRICT NOT GREAT PROOOCER

WHERE U. S. CRUISER FOUND THE COLOMBIAN TROOPS s

FINE OIL THERE, BUT IN LIMITED

QUANTITY.

WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE

(Special to The TndianapoHe News.] PRINCETON. Ind., December 17.-New developments In the Princeton district, in Gibson and Pike counties, where oil is found in the corniferous limestone, are not many. The oil is of a dark color and Is

.81 specific gravity.

It is difficult to finish a well in the district on account of the trouble in drilling through the limestone or corniferous formation, owing to its being so “cavey.” Sometimes, after a well has been put to pumping, it is impossible to get any of the greasy fluid above ground, owing to a, cave-in Just after it has been cleaned out. A few wells have been cased to the bottom, but so far this has failed to make

good producers out of them.

The following shows what the new Eldorado is doing 1 : The Hoosler Oil Company’s No. L. Miller farm, is good for a

—— on the Downey land, is a gasser. The Ohio Oil Company has an eight-barrel well on the Mumford land, a gasser on the Woodburn land and is drilling No. 1. Howe iand; also No. 1, on the Gelser land, near the Miller. The Farmers' Oil Company has a light well In the oil strata on the Emerson land, In Section 11. The Interstate Oil Company, the pioneer of the field, has two dry holes on land owned by A. Warnock and 8. W. Warnock. The Randolph Oil and Gas Company has a well drilling on the Carrothers land, In Section 34, Patoka township. The Crawford OH Company has a wildcat well under way on the Kelch land, in Section 27, White River

township.

The above is practically all that Is doing and has been^ done in the Princeton

district to date. The daily production of all the wells Is less than thirty barrels.

Oil Near Hamlet of Jalapa. [Special to The Indianapolis News.] MARION, Ind.. December 17.—The Ohio Oil Company has drilled in an Important test well in the Marion district on the Steuber land. In Section 10, Pleasant township, Grant county, and a great distance from former developments, about a mile northeast of the hamlet of Jalapa, along the Misslsslnewa river and four miles northwest of Marlon. Gas and salt water was found In the vicinity a few years ago, but this Is the first oil. The well makes a very good showing and the pump will determine what the venture amounts to. It may be the forerunner for the extension of the Marlon district.

PLENTY OP GAS AT RICHMOND.

Number of Consumer* is Now Larger Than Ever.

(Special to The Indianapolis News.]

RICHMOND, Ind., December 17.~There are more than 4,300 natural gas consumers on the pipelines of the Richmond Natural Gas Company and the present month promises to break all records in the way of receipts. The supply of the fuel is

more plentiful this winter than at any ‘ “ M' " ‘ - . .

time since the early days of natural gas It has been forcibly demonstrated here

this winter that people prefer using nat-

i prk

ural gas at high price to wood or coal, though the latter fuel may prove more economical. Fuel dealers say their business ha* been materially injured this winter a* a result of the strong gas pressure, and people are paying gas bills that range from 12 to 125 a month without a murmur. The indications are that the Richmond Natural Gas Company will soon be paying Its old-time dhddends to stockholders. For several years the stock was at a

premium, but a few years ago it could

m< ’ ■ mm

easily obtained. Holders are not anx-

ious to part with it now.

Inssno Negro Again Breaks Loose. [Bpeclfcl to The Indluapolis Newx ] MARION, Ind., December 17.—Henry Jordan, the Insane colored man, who injured two policemen a few days ago, broke loose again yesterday evening. When an attempt was made to lock him in a cell at the county jail he showed fight and attacked the officers with a club. During the struggle he kicked Deputy Sheriff Will Williams, injuring him seriously. The case has been called to the attention of Major George W. Steele and an effort will be ^ade to have Jordan placed In the Military Insane Hospital at Washington.

NEW PIANO STORE

Store Open Saturday, December 19, at 10 A. M.

At 137 North Pennsylvania Street, First Door South of Denison Hotel Entrance—Your Presence la Deaired—A Magnificent Display. ^

Now for a few words to the prospective piano purchasers of Indianapolis and vicinity. 1 have been actively engaged in the piano business for a number of years, and point with pardonable pride to the fact that I have ALWAYS been connected with piano* that stand for quality, and 1 am familiar with the merits and demerits of the different grades and makes, which is a most valuable experience for one who asHumes to advise in the selection of a piano. I have carefully selected a list of pianos—all of which are of the most approved quality and known reputation, and will offer them at prices and on terms that place PIANOS of quality within the reach of most every one. For my leader 1 offer the justly celebrated Smith & Nixon, as it is POSITIVELY THE FINEST and most perfect of all pianos built. It stands In a class by itself, not alone a modern improvement on pianos, but on Invention incasing a GRANL> PIANO IN AN UPRIGHT CASE. The result of this Innovation places this piano in the world without an equal. It is recognised by such world-famed pianists as Albino Gorno, Romeo Gomo, Dr. Nicholas J. Eluenheimer, Theodore Bohlmann, and many other famous musicians, as the greatest musical and piano invention of the nineteenth century. In the regular upright I have the Ebersole, a strictly high-grade, absolutely durable Instrument, a product of the Smith £ Nixon Piano Manufacturing Company:. the Haines Bros., one of the oldest makes on the market to-day; Foster. Armstrong

and others.

1 will not handle the very cheap pianos, i only those that can be recommended and guaranteed. They start at a price of $200 for an honest and thoroughly reliable pi ann. and for <*v#rv Addition:*I didlisr vm
