' at the foot of Meigs avenue. It is in
• .-barge of Capt. L. T. Nichols and is in- | habited by thirty families, representing ! cighty-one persons. Captain Nichols is j an evangelist, and the heads of the reI maimng twenty-nine families are his fol-
lowers. Several years ago he conceived the idea of building an evangelistic boat and visiting all river towns In the country. The boat was completed in July. 190S. “It is not oitr intention to form churches." said Captain Nichols, "hut we are working for the general goo*I of all churches. There are many whom the churches fail to reach, and it is these that we expect to benefit most. We have a brass band of twenty pieces, all beautiful instruments, that furnish the music at our meetings, and this naturally attracts people and causes them to come out for the first time. After that they generally become interested ip what I have
to say, and return.”
Adam Not the First Man.
Captain Nichols has c Gained the use of a vacant lot here and 'l erect a mammoth tent for meetings. Dne of his chief assistants is Mrs. Maud Hembree, a woman evangelist. She is a widow and a native of Tennessee. Captain Nichols began preaching when only thirteen years
