TJia Republicans of Indlanapolla will nominate candidate* for city offices on the afternoon of Saturday. August 19. The , data was fixed at & meeting of the executive committee, held last night The convention will meet at 2 o'clock. It wlil be made up of two delegates from each precinct. and one delegate for every fifty ,
; vote* cast for W. N. Harding In 18#7 and | W^A^TED—oirl f or general housework,
on* delegate for each fntctlon of over twenty-five voter*. The convention will \ nominal* a candidate for mayor, a city clerk, a Judge of the Police Court, and
councllmen-at-large.
The Aging of such an early date for the convention was considered another victory for the so-called anti-machine Republicans. who are In the majority on the executive committee. The representatives of this wing of the party. It la stated, felt that It would be wise to hold the convenj tion while their forces are still well or- ! ganlaed. As aoon as It was announced today that the convention date had been nxed • j the friends of the candidates got to work In earnest, and it Is announced that the campaign will be lively and aggressive in every precinct for the next two'weeks.
Three Candidate*.
The prospect Is that Daniel M. Ransdeil, Charles A. Bookwalter and John R. ,AHen will 8e the only candidates for the - nomination for mayor. Each has a large following, and it Is foreseen that the cont teat for delegates will be spirited. The primaries to name delegates will probably be held on the evening preceding
the day of the convention.
It was related by knowing politicians 1 to-day that a good many things may develop before the convention meets. Charles A. Bookwalter is still engaged with George H. McCaslIn In examining 1 the books of the county treasurer's office, and it Is rumored that he will make an effort to get his report with reference to that office ready before the convention meets. It may be ready only a day or two before the convention comes. It Is pretty well understood that the experts will have some Interesting things to relate In the report, and since the facts Will touch at least one man who Is “In city polities," the politicians are wondering what the effect will be on the
candidacy of Bookwalter. May Bring Oat Cwndidatea.
The Impression Is that the announcement that the date of the city convention has been fixed will bring out additional candidates for the minor city offices. : The candidates for city clerk so far announced are Charles N. Elliott, Charles Egerton, James H. Moore and E. T.
' obmbm ’ .r
The politicians at this time are not quite clear as to the candidates for Judge of the Police Court. W. H. Ripley is a candidate, and it Is understood that George W. Stubbs's name will be presented, though ho has not announced that he Is a candidate. George W. Winpenny Is also a candidate.
