GERMAN HOUSE CELEBRATION.

The corridors of the building were thronged, with promenadera, and many parties filled the various roons of the building The celebration continued welt on into the mornThe work of th» orchestra and chorus In the program opening the evening was well done, and was regarded as full of promise. There was singing by a male chorus and by a mixed chorus of nearly a hundred voices. The rendering of "Der Lena” and •‘WaldveHohen” was particularly well received, and there were encore*. Mrs. Alice Fleming Evans sang a Creole song, by Austin, and was compelled to respond to an encore. Philip Rappaport made the German address of the evening. It was not by chance, he said, that the German House had been opened on Washington's birthday. Tbo dedication was In the spirit of liberty associated with the day. John W. Kern delivered the English address. The choice of Washington’s birthday as the time for dedicating this house, he said, was an instance Illustrating the spirit of loyalty to the United States government In Germans who yet cherish fond memories of the Fatherland.
