A Qonnan woman called at the polled Otatkm (his morning and demanded protection from a man named Schneider. She talked in such a queer way that Dr. Va Kir. W as called in, and It waa soon found that her mind waa affected. The police remember that she came to the police station about three months ago and —m that she was from NoblenviUe, and had been robbed while on her way to the German Orphans’ Home. It was found that she bad been employed by Mrs. A. Bird man, No. 250 East Vermont

street. ■

She explained that she used to work for a man named Schneider, and that yesterday she had found a book on Mrs. Erdman’s table, which made her believe that Schneider waa after her to do her some harm. The book she had with her and ^khiblted it. It was a pamphlet Issued by a drug company to advertise a f>*#ent article. It is written in verse, and the verse to, which the woman took particular exception was: "Don’t keep me talking," he eaclaimed, "Me bead Is like to burst." "A-ha," cries Schneider, "Mike, me boy. Why didn’t you say so first." The woman’s name is Johanna Marguerite Wtebenbek. After producing her book and pointing out the otojectlonal verse, she kept repeating it, and saying, "Seev-me head is like to burst—that is that man Schneider. He make me head to burst. I got the pain in me head now.” She was locked up, and an insanity Inquest will be held on her. Retail Merchants’ Picnic. The change to the weather yesterday afternoon drew a large crowd to the retail merchants’ picnic at the State Fair grounds. The music kept up until late to the evening, and the dancing did not stop until after 10 o’clock. The afternoon was given up to track events. There was a race between delivery wagon horses around the track that was exciting, and the women s bicycle race created interest. Harry Buschmann, who ran against Hogan at the ball grounds, was entered in the fat man’s race, and won It. He made the hundred yards in fourteen seconds. There were a number of other sports, and the picnic was a success. 4 For the Elks* Benefit. The members of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of Muncie, Anderson and Marion have arranged for a series of six base ball games for the benefit of members of the order who were Injured in the recent accident at Atlantic City.
