DISSATISFACTION OF UNIONS.
Grievance Against the Agricultural Board—Labor Day Withdrawals.
At a meeting of the Labor Day committee yesterday morning a committee from the Zig-Zag Cycling Club was present, and gave notioe that the club bad secured the racetrack at the State Fair Grounds for September 5 from tbe Indianapolis Driving Clnb. This announcement brought out discussion, and gave'-tbs carpenters an opportunity to bring their grievance against the State Board of Agriculture up. The carpenters’ delegates said they had always been opposed to securing the Fair grounds for the Labor Dav picnic, as the ptate Board of Agriculture had opposed organized labor in the construction of the buildings, and that non-union carpenters were now working on the grounds with the permission of the board; thev said that any place in Indiana would be preferable to the State Fairgrounds. The action of the Driving Club and the Zig-Zag Club was characterized by some speakers as dishonorable. Any action, it was held, on the part of the Labor Day committee in withdrawing from the lease would be honorable. The eoanuittee on grounds was instructed to see the officers of the Driving Club end secure tbe track if possible, and/ failing in this, to secure other grounds. The Zig-Zag psople ay they are blameless of underhand action,-and that they bave been for months, ever since the spring races were abandoned, contemplating the nse of the great track for the several days’ fall tonrnament. It was charged Shat the Labor Signal had beeo fomenting trouble for selfish purposes, and that with the exception of a few interested parties the Labor Day demorifetratinn would be attended by ell organized labor iu Indianapolis. A resolution was read from the Painters’ and Decorators’ international convention at ^t. Louis recommending united action between K, of L., the Federation and independent national bodies wherever practical. At its meeting yesterday afternoon Typographical Union, No. 1, voted to withdraw from the Labor Day celebration in case the K. of L. takes part. It is understood that the bookbinders, pressmen and other publishing trades will als^ withdraw.
