in tbe evening there was some Tbe committee on arranging the

reception included H. B. Newcomb, George W. Russell, C. D. Webb and Ed Kingsbury. The Irvington Lodge, 324, of tho Knights of Pythias, held us first public installation of* officers last night. A large part of Irvington’s population and a number of visitors from the city taxed tbe capacity of the lodge-room to its utmost. A very enjoyable evening was spent. The officers in-

stalled with interesting ceremony were:

C. C.—H. B. Newcomb. V. C.—Cortland D. Webb. Prelate—Tross Dailey.

K. R. and 8.-C. W. Brouse.

M. A.-G. W. Haroaker. I. G.—B. F. Donnelley. O. G.—Edward Klujysbary.

M. F.—Thomas L. Thompson.

41. Ex.—Joseph L. Hunter.

It has been discovered that by a street-car •trike Ivington is less affected than any other suburb. With two railroads at command, Irvingtonians bad better facilities tor getting to the center of the city than many living in Indianapolis. The only drawback was the painful sympathy with National road friends whoso acquaintance has been

gained in street-car trips.

President and Mrs. Bntler gave the second of their series of receptions to tbe college students last night, and a pleasant evening was spent by those attending. During the evening two charades were effectively presented by Misses Julia Fish, Georgia and Eva Butlsr aud Messrs. Hugh

Miller and Laz. Noble.

The cold weather has driven away nearly all the grip from Irvington. An Irvington thermometer, which is superior to tbs signal service instrument in the city, registered eight degrees below zero yesterday.
