The Aldermen and Common Council held n special meeting together last night for th* purpose of choosing th* official boards, and, of course, the proceeding* were characterized bystrietly part lean actions. Mayor Denny was eboeen to preside by a vote of 19 to 11. Councilman Trader and Alderman Connett made brief speeches defending their position. They protested against tb* action of tha Republican caucus in si tewing the Democrats to have a representative on th* boards, explaining that they hod no personal fot'.-ng against the Democratic members, • bat they did not think that party intereat* wopld be advanced by having Democrats on th* boards. Connctlmea Kelly end Hicklin (Democrat*) said that their party in the Council hod not asked for a representative on the boards, but, aince it had been given them, they were not averae to accepting it. Mr. Bicklio, after consultation with his party colleagues, aaid that they would make no nomination, as the Republicans bad shown some signs of liberality, but he proposed, without caucut action, to ask his brethren to vote fot Simeot Coy, whom he praised as a first-class party manager. Mr. Stuckmeyet requested Mr. HickHn to withdraw Mr. Coy’s name, which be eventually did, and Mr. Pesrson was elee’ed without opposition. Oleomargarine as Butter. W. H.
