Mrs. Ellen Bartley, of this city, Saturday last went to Cincinnati and procured the arrest of her husband, Michael Bartley and Harriett McAfee, whom she charged with living in adultery. Helena Bloom and children, of Anrora, have bronght suit against the Franklin Life Insurance Co., to recover $5,000, valne of policy held by August Bloom at time of his death in December, 1881, Saturday evening, during a dispute, Wei. Eador struck at Apton Wolf witn an open knife, sUtting his coat and under garments and opening the skin for severs) inches. Eador claims to have acted in self-defense, aad will have a hearing on Wednesday. The Presbyterian p si tors and a delegated elder from each church will meet in this city on the 12th of next month aa a state svaod. Rev. Joseph F. Next Thursday William C. Barnss, aged twenty-two, son of Rev. G. O. Barnes will, in company with C. C. Palmar of this city start on an evangelistic tour 4 B East Tennessee, Mr. Palmer possesses an exceUent tenor voice and will conduct ths singing. Mr. Barnes has had a college training but is inexperienced entirely in public speaking. He has had, however, much instruction from his father in biblical and religious matters and has imbibed from him the same spirit of earnestneM. Theioung men are devoted to the work end begin their evangilistic work in a region similar to that in which Rev. Mr.
Barnes himself began.
Rev. Mr. Barnes said this morning that he might remain here a month or leave tomorrow. His stay, he said, was not a matter of liis own determination, and he could therefore tell nothing about his future. It is likely, however, that be will oontinne

Indianapolis a* a “Hub."
Daring a long period of mental disturbaace in his old age, Gov. Bay was fond of discussing his "grand scheme" of railroad concentration at Indianapolis. Here was to be the head of a score of radiating lines. At intervals of five mile# were to be villager, of ten miles towns, and of twenty miles respectable cities. This orazy whim, aa everybody regarded it, has been made a fact as solid as the everlasting hills. The only point of failure is the feature that possessed special interest to the governor. The Union depot and point of concentration of the radiating lines are not on his property, opposite the court house, where, by all the requirements of symmetry and consistency they should have been. Oddly enough, one expedient in construction which certainly looked silly, has been actually put * in nse sncccufolly in some one or another of our far we> tern lines. Where deep gorges were to be crossed, he thought that trestle work might be replaced by cutting eft the tops of growing trees level with the track, and laying sills on these lor the rails. It ia not many months since the papers published a description of exactly that sort of expedients in croising s deep and heavily timbered hollow on a western railway—the Denver & Bio Grande, nrob ably. So thoroughly has the great “nub’’ scheme and its connections and incidents been identified with Gov. Ray and his hallucinations, that there are few who know anything of the matter at all, who will not be surprised to learn that the origination of it is at least as likely to be th»-work of Gov. Noble’s deliberate reasoning as of Gov. Kay’s fantasies. In his annual message of 1833-4, he discusses the importance of the internal improvement system, then projected and widely debated, bnt not adopted by the state, and only partially pursued by the help ot canal land grants by congress, and he argues for the concentration of artificial facilities for transportation here. In other words, without saying it, he wants Indianapolis to be exactly the "hub’’ that Gov. Ray predicted it would be. Whether the rational governor in office got bis notions from the fancies of the deranged ex governor, or the latter only expanded in his .fantastic ’projects, the official snggeation of the other we shall never know. But the probability is that the sane governor profited by the hints he saw in the wild talk of the insane governor. For Governor Noble was not of a strikingly original genius, and Gov. Ray as eccentric and egotistical as he was, had more than an average allowance of brains.

Base Ball Club Under Way. At the base ball meeting,Saturday night, it was determined to proceed with the organization of a club for next season. Lists will be circulated and to each subscriber of twenty-five dollars a season ticket for himself and lady will be issued. H. B. Phillips will have control of the business management and players, and Will L. Johnson, as trustee of the subscribers, will have charge of the finaucea.
