pare plans for a new passenger depot. No invitation has been extended to eoteide lines to join in with the Union company ia the new building, end none probably ever will be. President Ingalls of the C., I. 8l L. A C..said to a Nears reporter that it would be a difficult matter to even approximate the value of the Union company’s property and franchises, and no equitable basis for admitting future roads could be reached. Some body most own the Union depot, and the present ownership waa doing ss much for ontside roads as justice to themselves wonid admit of. The indications are that the L. B. A W. will not retain long the depot privileges now extended by the Union company, out will build a separate one for their own use. The presidents of the various roads composing the Union Railway company, yesterday afternoon authorised the superintendents and general managers to appoint n day and confer with the Belt road officials relative to a lease or traffic arrangement The superintendents decided te cell a meeting for Wednesday next hod the Belt officials were so notified this morning. The general impreasion is thst a traffic irrrngement satisfactory to all concerned will subserve the pnrpoees of the roads to better advantage than a lease, though it is not altogether improbable that a lease may be effected. At any rate the time of jubilee will have arrived os soon as any arrangement is perfected whereby the streets will be relieved of blockades from freight trains. The matter now virtually rests with Messrs. Thomas, McKeen, McCres and Claypool. Under the agreement reached yesterday evening by the general passenger agenta, outside ticket offices, on and after Jane 1, will be closed at 7 p. m., and the eurbstone solicitor* will be dispensed with. It was agreed that, within a radios of forty miles from this city, local agents shall be forbidden to ent ratea. W. H. Pronty, secretary of the local passenger agents’ association, resigned, and H. R. Deering, of J., M. A L road, was made his successor. The auditors of the several roads, who have been examining ticket agent Donongh’s books at the Union depot, unite in saying that nothing haa been found wrong, and that every ticket ia correctly accounted for. The C., I., St. L, & C. shops at this point, it is understood will be built with a part ot the proceed* of the sale of the $1,000,000 of new stock to be issued by the company.

Found Dead.

The remains of Louis Barth, night clerk at the California bouse for several years past, were found lying im the hallway, No. 198 South Illinois street, early this morning, face dawnwards, and the appearance indicating that he had been dead for several hours. The deceased wts aged 31 and unmarried. His parents live at Noblesville, and daring the forenoon bis body was claimed by J. G. Of late he has complained of heart trouble, and his death is attributed to that cause. The coroner is investigating. Sjme years ago Barth was stabbed in the arm by a man named Lepper at a picnic at Moech’s grove; the wound afterwards inflamed, and gangrene setting in, the limb waa amputated at the shoulder. His ssiailant.was never prosecuted. Mr. C. Y. Proposed Increase of SalArles. The republican members of the city council held another canons last night and nndid whatever they may have done last week. Thejcity attorney’s salary was raised to $3,000 per year; the city engineer from $1,500 to $1,800; street commissioner from $1,350 to $1,600, and chief of police from $1,200 to $1,300. The city janitor was given an increase of $90 per annnm, and the conneilmen and aldermen took onto themselves an increase of $50. The common day laborers were left with the board of public improvements, and the firemen and police remain unbenefitted. All the heads of departments were benefitted save the chief fire engineer, who has more responsibility, does more work, is on duty night and day, and runs more risk than all the others combined. Why a special exception was made In his case remains to be seen.

Dr. BtongM Olrea Bowd. Dr. Solomon Stongh, of Waterloo, ladiana, arrived to-day, In company with hia attorneys, Messrs. Combs, Bell and Morris, of Ft. Wayne, and gave bond in the sum of $5,000 to answer a federal grand jory indictment charging him with making false pension certificates as examining surgeon, and receiving illegal fees. A motion followed, which was granted by Judge Gresham, transferring the case to the Ft Wayne circnit court for trial. This was dons for the accommodation of the numerous witness, all of whom live in that section of the state. The defendant is a practising physician at Waterloo, an old resident, and as aanrgeon^standiDg very high in his profession. He is also a very popular gentleman, and hia indictment cansed no little surprise in DeKalb and adjoining counties. 4
