which Is too much below the stage tbe orchestra for comfort. The drop view is artistic and pleasing to tbs eye, a scene cm the Rhine being represented. Tee stage is ample end weH supplied with the scenery necessary to the production of Hamle*, and finely lighted. For some reason, probably on on account of the large vacant space beneath the stage, ever j sound made in the moving of scenery wm plainly audible, aad la the last act, drowned the voice of the players. For the same reason, however, tho faintest sound of aa actor’s voice is ptetalv heard by the audience, and tho acoustic properties of thebuildiog seem to be nearly perfect The great chandelier of the dome wm not in place, but soon will be. Its place wm sup-

plied by a hnall substitute.

The play last night wm "Hamlet” Mr. Barrett taking the title rola. His acting is too well-known hare to need commenting upon. He is one of the fiiraot readers on the stage, and possesses the genius to protray his idea of the character in an original and impressive manner. He wm finely supported, the "Ophelia” of Miss Wainwright, toe “Polonius” of Mr. Rogers, the "Ghost” of Mr. James and tbe “Grave Digger” of Mr. Plut-kett deeervlng special mention. Prof. Beissenherz led tbe ocbestra, which had a nreponderaoce of brass, but was otherwise was very satisfactory. To-night ths play is

"Richelieu.”

MARTS Of OAK.

Hrarc’s splendid drama of Hearts of Oak was finely played at toe Grand Opera house last i ijiht, and will be continued through the week, it is one of the best mounted and most realistic plays ever put upon those

boards.

ALL THE RAM. A phenomenal audience, in size, for an "opening night,” comfortably filled toe Park theater to witness the initial performance of “All the Rage;” and rarely & an audience better pleased than that one was. The piece itself iff a string of absurdities, with tittle in it that can be called dot or purpose. It is intended to afferd a iaogh, and does it perfectly, but not often from ludicrous situstiers. Theca occur iu ths last acts of toe play sometimes, but toe currant of toe fan nm*through eccentricity of character, and erisp and sparkling, and sometimes witty diaiegue. Tttvcfawt-wocar of tha chiropodist is a real creation, and in tbe hand* of Mr. Hardenburg it is M finished a personation as one often sees. Although it is the central figure, it is by no means monopolistitvand other characters have a living chance. The muchabused candidate fra congress is a good second. Him Bartlett, Miss Moulton and Mils Winner are beautiful women, aad act with force and fidelity, the latter at once becoming a great favorite. The play is wall mounted and costumed and evenly presented, aud on the whole affords two hours anda half of pure fun and hearty L enjoyment. It can not fail of crowded houses. OTHER THIROS. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heine’s first recital, for this season, ol classics! music will take plrce on to-morrow evening, assisted by Mrs. Heine’s pupils and Miss Constance Heine, ait Theodore Pafflln A Go’s music parlors. Miss Nannie Sehnuti, Miss Anna Drape and Mias Jode Rittenhouse are on tbe program. The Lancers’ dancing association will give their first invitation ball of the season at Masonic hall this evening.
