M. V. Clark, late stock agent of the Bee Line, at this point, has been appointed auditor of the St. Louis and Iron Moantain exprers company, with headquarters at St. Louis, f • f { j a . v , ..f * The members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity will meet to-night at tne law offiqe of Ulsypool A Ketch am, for the purpose of organising an alamni chapter, preparatory to the national convention, which will be held here the latter part of October. Secretary Thompson is expected to pass through Indianapolis to-night on his way to Terre Haute. He will remain in ludiana until after election. His son and daughter, iiarry M. and Mollie. accompanied him a part of tha way, intending to remain in the mountains until his return to Washington. The feveatb regiment, at its re-union last night, elected the following officers: President, W. D. Dunlap, Franklin; secretary, S. 0. Brown, Franklin; executive committee, D. H. Miller, W. L. Young and W. D. Dunlap. The next reunion will be held alL Franklin, date to be fixed by the executive committee. Delegates to the state Y. M. C. A. convention are requested to call on the general secretary and get their credentials. As the quota for the Indianapolis association is not full, if there is any member who can go, and will notify the secretary, he or she will be supplied with credentials. The cooveatiou meets September 23d. ^ The County Me mortals. Two counties have sent in memorials for the state houae corner atone which are real beauties. On* might call them works of art ttitfeout straining the phrase half as much as some of onr allow critics strain it occasionally. One from Casa county is a copperplate. one-sixteenth of an inch thick and about a foot square, silvered and elegantly engraved with date of organisation, population then and now, aud all the leading points of local history set out succinctly. It is polished till it fairly dazzles the eye. The other from Laporte is of copper, of exactly the same dimensions a* the first, but burnished to the highest degree of brilliance. It is engraved quite as handsomely as the Cass • plate, but the township data are arrangeu in tabular form, more convenient but probably a little less ornamental than the regular lines of its mate. Marion county is getting up a plate engraved in columns, still a aiffVrent arrangement, and possibly the handsomest; but so much work it going to be needed to complete it as designed, that the state house board may have to put it in a hole by itself in another stone. Tne ceuuty board is “setting its coulter a little too deep.” The Casa plate is as beautiful as can well be luiagioed, and so is the Laporte, and tbe first cost but $16, as it stands. That is not much for a record that may descend to atims when ai! meals and all material of all kind will be ot'taii td direct'y from the one unnsnal and s >le element hydrogen.as the English savant, Lock>tr, claims to have proved hydrogen to b« Greere county sends a verv nicely enzrav*d manuscript The copper box is r*eady, aw is the bale to put it U, and it is In tbe bottom of the corner s oue, too, instead of tbe
top.
Bdweatlng the Orphans. A little trouble has broken out ia the second a bool district, occasioned by the removal of tbe Orphans’ home to the old university building on College avenue. Heretofore, the inmates of tbe borne bare been educated at tbe expense of the institution Itself, but tha year, Building No. 10 being so conveniently situated, tha managers thought it best to have those of their charges who were of suitable age attend echoorthere. Hint thereF was no room for them until an order was Lined directing the children residing north of Seventh street, to attend school in the new No. 26, ob Yaode^ street, across tbe Peru railroad tracks. This created the commotion referred to. Some of the school commissioners thought it unfair to drive oat pupils already in school for the benefit of others, who they think can be accommodated at No. 26, just as well as those TuTith of Seventh street. The trouble will be settled by locating a teacher in tbe borne, (Specially as all necessary appliances for Echodl Work are already provided there.

It is hoped, in time, to carfy on an order business, so that persons desiring articles not on hand may leave orders for tbe same. It will be necessary to have some funds on hand before a room can be opened, and tha assistaocs of all generous-minded people is asked in raising tbe amount required. Space has been allowed at the state fair, where some articles will be on sale and books open for sobscriptions, which will be gladlr received. Any communications may be addressed to either Mrs. M. 1.
