A* to the .Mute. “ Yes, mules is better than horses for street car work,” said an old and experienced driver thi- morning. “They last longer, two to one. When one of our mulei gets stove-up we turn him out to pasture (or a couple of months and he comes in just as fresh as a daisy. I have seen mules with their forelegs bowed out like barrel-hoops. You’d thought they never would get straight. After a two months vacation on pasture you wouldn’t know them. They were actually knock kneed. Horses won’t get over it like that. When you stave a horse un he is gone. It takes just about six months on these bowlders to play one out. We don’t uses horses much in this city, we have got 170 head of mules and only six horses. 1 es, occasionally a mule dies. 'About two a month is the ’size of it. They don’t die on the track from hard work; usually they are “over het,” and when they are taken to the water tank they drink themselves to death.
