SUNDAY SCHOOL WORK. Indiana Stats CbrUtian Sunday Schodl Convention. [Correspondence of The Indianapolis New*.] Wabash, August 8, 1878. Tbe church was most densely crowded yesterday evening. At 7:30 o’clock Rev. E. L. Frazier, of Franklin, led in prayer, and the president announced the various committees. Theconveation decided to employ an evangelist to work up the Sunday-school cause in the state at large; $600 was pledged for that purriose. , Mrs. Adkins, of Wabash, then addressed the convention on the subject of # the “Relation of Sunday-schools to the missionary work,” which was throughout a very able essay. Mrs. Maria Jameson edified the meeting with a concise and well-timed speech on the subject of Sunday-school missions. Prof. A. R. 'Benton of Butler university gave the audience the benefit of one of his masterly efforts on the influence of the Simdav school on intelligence and refinement. Rev. John Shackelford of Kentucky university was now invited to the stand and introdued by the president, which was responded to by the audience rising to their feet. Rev. Storer of South Bend conducted bible reading aud responses, which contained some valuable suggestions. The exercises throughout the evening indicated a deep flowing enthusiasm rarely observed in convention. THtTRSDAV’s MEETHfO. Rev. Mr. Little, of the Presbyterian church, opened the exercises of the convention by offering a very comprehensive and earnest prayer for the Divine favor to rest upon its deliberations, after which Rev. L. H. Jameson delivered a very able and elaborate address upon the question of music in our Sunday schools, strongly urging the divine authority for using instruments of music in churches and Sunday schools. Rev. R. T. Matthews, of Madison, spoke upon the subject of uniform lessons. Rev. Alfred N. Gilbert, of Cincinnati.made an address upon the general wants of the age in relation to spiritual tendency. Rev. 1. B. Chase, of Illinois, gave a short ipeech of encouragement, full of earnest sympathy. Rev. S. J. Tomlinson made a pointed speech on the importance of enlisting the church in Sunday school work. At 2 p. m: Mrs. A. M. Adkinson.of Wabash gave a model exercise on primary teaching. She presented the various features of this department in an eminently practical manner. “Teachers' meetings” was the subject of half an hour’s exercise led by Simeon Frazer of Indianapolis.
