Beutinel printers are telling on the street that If they bad not signed that endorsement this mon ing they would have been discharged. The first endorsement was so constructed that even the overawed employes refuted to sign it and a modification became necessary. The Morris murder case did not reach the jury last night as was expected, and it isdoabtful it the arguments ars concludad today the counsel without exception making long speeches. There was a large crowd in the court room this morning to listen to Major Gordon’s argument. Matilda Roquette has brought a suit against Father Fitzpatrick tor damages for assault and battery with intent It will take indisputable evidence to make the public believe the charge, end Father Fitzpatrick’s friends say it is simply tha culmination of a long continued attempt to blackmail him. The name of auditor Bb. Henderson is not appended to the contract made batween the state and the Journal company for the state printing. The name* of Governor Williams and Secretary Neff are there, but Mr. Hendenon being a stockholder in the Sentinel, and being of the opinion that the contract ahould have been given to that concern, refused to sign. Fifty five members of Raper commandery will be in attendance at the Cleveland conclave. P. & C. railroad, where they bed been called to put a stop to a series of outrages which had been perpetrated there of late. For several nights unknown parties had placed obstructions on the track, and in eeveffel instances serious accidents came very near resulting. Tne officers made no arrests, but think that the vandals have been frightened off.

“THE VrOHKlNGALAN*S FKIEND.” A Good Opportunity- for a Few more Cards. On pain of losing their situations thirty or forty Sentinel employes subscribed tbeir names to a card which appeared in the communistic sheet this morning, certifying that the “present management” has paid them their pittances regularly, and that a situation in the Sentinel establishment is eqnivaleut to a place in paradise. This is all very pretty, but the card says nothing about the “present management” in the old suit of clothes. The “present management,” belt remembered, is composed of the dishonest portion of the old company, the men who by chicanery and bad-faced swindling shed forty thousand dollars of honf st debts and at the same time froze out ten or a few honest stockholders by bolding a star chamber session ani deliberately robbing the men who had no notice of their meeting, of tbeir stock. By selling out to themselves the “present management” not only robbed their business creditors of 85 per cent, of tneir claims, swindled the men who had advanced money to help them bridge over the campaign, bat actually tried to steal the wages from their own employes. And but for the exertions of the very stockholders who had been swindled ont oi their stock, the workingmen and workingwomen would never have got more than fifteen per cent, of their claims As it is, the money raised by outsiders, or a portion of it, has stopped somswhere and but few of them have received the additional forty per cent offered in compromise. The following parties, who have filed their claims for the eighty-five per cent of their wages still dne, might come out in a card aad truly state that the “present management” did and is still doing everything poasibie to rob labor of its dues: W. O. Bates, R. Butler, 8. Beale, George Cockerton, George Cottman, A. Carle, George DePaw, P. D. Hammond, Tins Lyons, J. W. Maynard, L. G. Moulton, John Morrie, Joe Maudlin, W.JW.

C. 8.

Sparks, Harry Striklin, J. C, Tutt, J. B. Wilson, Ella Eaton, Lyle McMurry. These parties represent about $1,000 in claims for labor performed for which they have received no compensation. Miss McMurray might state again that “the present management” heartlessly refused to advance her enongh of her wages to bay her a pair of shoes in midwinter. The type founders who furnished the type with which the Sentinel is printed could testify in the card that the men compoeing “the present management” robbed them of $2,000 by taking the consignment from the depot a few days before going into dishonest liquidation. The men who were forced to lodge in ice booses along the banks of the canal could add their testimony to that of the other viotims of the dishonest lot, and the records of the township trustee could be made to furnish a paragraph or two on the sufferings of Sentinel printers who, with their families, were thrown on public charity by reason of ths theft of their wages by the “present management” A card containing these and many other interesting facts would be very interesting reading.

Five boys entered for the halfmile race, twenty-two times forward and back across the bath. Gustave Roy accomplished the distance in 24 minutes, Gustave Scbnull in 27 minutes, and Wm. Beyer in 30 minutes; the two other boys giving out, one on the first, and the other on the seventeenth round. A silver cup was given to the winner. A pair of earrings was given to the one most proficient of the five little girls who are just beginning to swim under Mr. Schissel’s instruction. A silver cup was also awarded to the moat rapid boy swimmer.

A Fire. A fire broke ont in the basement of IL C. <t W. F. Kettenbsch’s hardware store, opposite the coart house, at 7 o’clock last evening The fire had evidently been smoldering for two or three hours, and is snppoeed to have originated from a lighted candle which had been left by one of the employes in the cellar, among a lot of packing boxes, without a candle-stick, and burniag down -to the wood had ignited it The fire was confined to the cellar, where quantities of sash, doors, ropes, nails, etc , were stored, all of which ware horsed or damaged by water. The store was being invoiced preparatory to selling ont to J. Keller, of North Judson. Loss $2,500. Covered by insurance.

More Trouble. In a conversation with an eminant medical man of this city, a News reporter wae assured that the conduct of Dra. Thom peon and Woodbnrn, who have violated the code by consulting with Dr. Bliss, of Washington City, an expelled member of the orthodox guild, in the case of Senator Morton, would probably result in their expulsion from the county and state medical societies.

A t this place, late Wedneeday afternoon .the Enightstown and Greenfield base ball oiubs played a game of five innings, the score standing, Enightstown 2. Greenfield29 The game was alayed under very unfavorable circumstances. game being called at 5:30 o’clock on account of rain. Our boys played well, considering the circumstances. The clubs are te meet to play at Enightstown fair ground on Wednesday next, the 29th inst. The brotherhood of united workingmen gave a ball Wednesday evening last at Masonic hall. It was financially a success. A county off ce-seeker was at the court house a few days since, erdoavoring to court' favor with different individuals: also manifesting his pleasantry , to all by telling tales of his early life, by joking and the telling to us ol "What I know about killing rats.” Oiir rural city this summer has produced quite a crop of potatoes and in connection with the potatoes, raised and matured quite a large number of the Colorado potato beetle. A person posting along the outside streets can otten see the beetle crossing his pathway, evidently on the search for winter quarters, yesterday your correspondent noticed several of the beetles leasting upon the leaf of the thistle. t A (hooting matd^was held at the outskirts of the city yesterday afternoon. Two matches were had; in the first, John T. Tindall proved the best shot; in the second, Wesley Cornel was the best. There is still considerable sickness in the city and vicinity. Quiz.
