The 6rst Mormon immigrants of this season arrived in the Nevada. Among them are many children. They are English, Scotch and Welsh. They are under the leadership of President John Woodhouse and four missionaries. President Woodhouse said: “We number 120souls in all, witbont counting the four brethren and myself, and the majority of us are either mechanics or farm nanus. Wear# only the advance guard of a very large body; one thousand and more Mormons will sail from Liverpool" on the 28th inst., and the emigration this year will at least be up to the average. We expect to start for Utah this evening.” The New York and Boston division of the New York, Boston and Montreal railroad has been sold under the first mortgage bond foreclosure for $3,230,835, to the Farmers’ Loan and Trust company, who are the trustees for the bondholders. Commodore Vanderbilt is much better. He is cheerful and comfortable.' Daniel Drew is not improving, but his condition is not considered dangerous.

Dsvenport, June 7.—Intense astonishment was created in the First Methodist church Sunday evening, being the last meeting held by the revivalist, Mrs. Van Cott, when a young man, known here as A. H. Knapp, general agent for this state of the Singer sewing maphme agency, stepped up to the [platform and made the startling disclosure that his name was C. If. Buffington; that he hid been a gambler, a drunkard,; and debauchee, a villain of the worst type; that he had stopped at nothing less than murder and robbery; that his mother went crazy over his misdeeds, and that he, as far as his folks knew, wasdead. assuming his right name of Buffington. What makes these disclosures so startling is the fact that Knapp, or Buffington, has, during a year’s residence in this city, borne a character fojr honesty, probity, sobriety and morality, that endeared

Habbisbubg, June 7.—The fourth member of the Laroe family, near Easton, has died. Allen Laroe, the poisoner, confessed ilmt he committed the deed for money to keep him in the study of law. He declared he felt sorry when he saw his father and mother and others of the family sick, and took a couple of ’ swallows of the poisoned coffee to die with them. When told that his brother Alvin had died, he exclaimed, ‘‘Ob, n^y God! my God 1” and burst into tears. He, refuses to eat anything, and his comrade in the cell found him twisting hie bed sheet, as if to prepare for suicide. The funeral of his father and mother was attended by thousands of people. WAAMJMGTOM. Doing* of lhe Blaine (oatmilteee, Ete. Washington. June 7.—The sub-judica-ry committee to-day continued the investigation of matters affecting Blaine. Mr. Frye on behalf of Blaipe requested that the telegram received from Joerah Caldwell, from London, be printed with the rest of testimony. Mr. Hunton said the sub-committee had no official knowledge of the evidence of such a telegram, that the matter was in the hands of the full committee, as he said he never heard of the dispatch till Blaine allnded to it Hunton said he knew of it, but was not certain he saw it. Blaine—Do you know why Knott did not lay it before the sub-committee? Huntpn—You will have to ask Knott about that Blaine—I did ask, but could not find
out.
Mr. Frye submitted a motion that the sub-committee request the dispatch for publication with the testimony. Mr. Hunton said it would be taken into consideration by the Bub-oommittee. Benj. F. Rice, of Little Rock, Ark, and Nathaniel 8. Rice, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, were examined, but their testimony was unimportant. Blaine said he would like to look at the record to ascertain when the sub-committee was appointed. Hunton said Frye or any other member has as much right. [Special to Cincinnati Gazette of to day.] TUB ABRANGXllKBT Or BLAIttX’s MCTTKBS. The letters appear in the Congressional Record in full. They have been generally examined, and have forated almost the •ole topic of conversation to-day. Their arrangement excited universal comment. Some, which related to the same transaction, were as widely separated as the limits of the explanation would allow, and where a number on U e same subject came together, they were presented in the inverse order of their dates. In short, it would hardly be possible to arrange them either with regard to dates, subject, matter, or the legislation to which some of them relate, so as to create greater confusion iu the mind of the reader. THE NEW MAJrTEK IN THE LBTTXES. The two entirely new matters introdac-. ed by these letters, are held to be the worst for Mr. Blaine as a member of Congress, namely, those which allude to the legislation which he suggested, and which benefitted the gun company, in which he was a stockholder, and his action as speaker in helping through the legislation in favor of the Little Rock
railroad.
ISpecial to Cincinnati Commercial of to-day] Senators who opposed jurisdiction in the Belknap case refrained from voting upon the several questions upon which action was token to-day, on the ground that, as they contend, the senate has no right to proceed further in the matter, there being a bare majority in favor of jurisdiction, whereas two-third* are in their opinion requisite to affirm jurisdiction. It is understood to be the purpose of these senators when the main question, “guilty or not guilty,’’ shall be put, to decline to vote at all, but merely to make .known their presence by answering to the call of their names. By thia coarse they will prevent the conviction of Belknap, as the constitution requires that “no person shall be
