[Forney’s London Correspondence] “Let me admit at the start that there is nothing more delightful than the conversation of an educate 1 Englishman or Englishwoman ; bat the moment yoa pass from their circles yon are assailed at every qaarter by a mingling of dialecta, and in many cases a most incomprehensible jargon. I often find it difficult to understand an English clergyman, and it is the common remark of Americans who visit the thearers that they lose a large portion of the play in consequence of the rapid and indistinct enunciation of ao tore in subordinate parts. The same observation may be made with justice of moat of the speakers in the House of Commons. Take out Mr Disraeli, Mr. Gladstone, Mr. Wright, and a few more, and it is next to impossible to comprehend what nearly all the othen say.”

OMIO The Preepeeta far the EleetlM*. [Columbus Dispatch to to-day’s Cincinnati Cosnmerci L] The rooms of the Republican and Democratic Executive Committees are thronged this evening with their respective partisans, anxious to catch some additional c ue to the probable result of the election to-morrow. There is nothing new or sensational bearing on the qaestion. Each still expresses confidence in it* chances for success, as each has put forth every effort to win it Information received %t the Republican headquarters within a few days, indicate that a very full vote will be cast in these counties of the Western Reserve that had been regarded with the most solicitude. This seems to give assurance of the election of Hayes and Young, and the entire Republican State ticket A prominent Reolican writes from Ashtabula that that 'ounty will £ive Hayes four thousand majority. This will not be excessive, as compared with fofrner majorities, but it suggests a proportion that, maintained throngh>ut the State, would defeat Allen by a large majority. A leading Democrat says, to-day that the expectations of Allen’s friends are that the farmers will elect him. They concede that no gains are to be expected for him in Hamilton, Franklin,Lucas or Cuyahoga counties, in which the large cities are located. The indications here in Columbas certainly justify their expectations as to this city. The Democrats have the advantage in the election of members of the General Assembly, and unless the Republicans pull together in all the doubtful counties and Senatorial Districts, they will suffer the loss of the next Legislature, the • pportionment being in favor of their opponents. Cincinnati, October 12.—The election is exciting intense interest here. Citizens have thronged to the polls all forenoon, and the vote is large. Close contest for Governor The vote is the heaviest ever polled. Both parties are using every energy to get their votes in early. The betting is very even The Republicans claim heavy gains tn all the German wards, but the Democrats say this is balanced by the votes of the unemployed whom they claim for Allen. Cary, candidate for Lieut Governor, is being scratched by the Demorats and is running behind ou account of his temperance record. Columbcs, October 12 —The election is progressing quietly here. The weather is fine and a heavy vote is being cast. No predictions are passing as to the result, Cleveland, October 12 —The people are crowding to the polls to-day. An immense vote will be polled. Various reports as to the standing of the candidates are current, but nothing definite can be obtained at this time.

It is stated that a number of gentlemen of Fort Wayne offer to give their wives handsome presents if they will gather with their own fair hands a quart of hickory nuts from the trees. Such a novel proposition occasioned considerable wonder until an item was pointed out in a local paper stating that a lad in that vicinity had fallen from a tree while gathering nuts, and bad been unable to utter a word since the accident

The weather last night experienced a change to intense cold, thermometer going down to 38°. Slight frost occurred daring the night. A letter from Senator Alcorn, giving *a history of the recent disturbance at Friar’s Point, Mississippi, is published to-day. He says that the colored Sheriff (Brown) is an tbor of all the mischief with the view of subduing all opposition to his friends, whom be had nominated for various offices. Brown recently began haranguing negroes of outrages on his race. He urged them to arms in their own defense against the whites; even brought ammunition into the country for nse of negroes. Whites then gathered for defense. Brown’s party then held a convention, in which he controled every thing The Whites bad a meeting, and speeches were made denouncing Brown, The latter then sent runners over the country urging the negroes to assemble, armed, on Monday night at the Court House. The whites then asked Brown to suprese disorders, and even offered to aid him. The negroes then marched on. with shot guns and pistols. The whites assembled one hundred strong; the negroes numbered several hundred. The whites ordered the negroes to leave town in fifteen minutes, and the negroes fell back bat did not retire or dispuree, the whites then charged and the negroes ran. Brpwn escaped, nobody was killed or injured, the negroes, next day, ambushed and killed a white man, when the whites pursued them, killing two capturing 3. Voter. Probably Exported, Yesterday Hamilton, the dead-fall scoundrel, returned to this city, and last evening he departed for Cincinnati on a train which bore 60 or 60 of the dead-beats, loafer, and thieves who make this city their headquarters. It is believed they went to Omo to vote for biilallenism, and it is a singular feature that Hollywood and Page, those immaculate detectives, also weot on the same train. Chief Wilson and Captains Griffin and Hennessey were said to be at the depot at the time, and if so scarcely could have failed to know of this exportation. A telegram was forwarded to Cincinnati giving warning of the coming of the mob, but the dispatch was not sent until after a second delegation of the same kind of mixed manna had taken passage for that place on the early train of to-day.
